DAILY LESSON PLAN IN EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of the principles of the ecosystem.
B. Performance Standard N/A
C. Learning Competency/Objectives The learners describe the principles of the ecosystem. (S11/12LT-IVhj-65)
Write the LC code for each. 1. Identify and describe principles of the ecosystem.
2. Explain the principles of the ecosystem.
3. Appreciate the importance of the ecosystem.
II. CONTENT Interaction and Interdependence
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages
2. Learner’s Materials pages
3. Textbook pages Sia, Shila Rose D, Cortez, Leah Amor S. and Sotto, Rosario L. (2016). Science in
Today’s World for Senior High School Earth and Life Science. (pp. 40 – 42). Sibs
Publishing House Inc. Quezon City.

4. Additional Materials from Learning
Resource (LR)portal
B. Other Learning Resource http://teachtogether.chedk12.com/teaching_guides/view/356
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the RECAPITULATION. Teacher asks the students to identify the characteristic or
new lesson property of life exhibited by each item. “Let’s try this one!”
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson IMAGINATION IS THE LIMIT. Teacher presents two objects (plant and rock).
ASK. Teacher asks the students.
• How would you determine whether the objects are alive or not?
• If it is alive or not, what do you call the particular environment where we
can find those objects?
C. Presenting examples COMMUNICATE. Students read the lesson’s objective:
D. /Instances of the new lesson Identify the living thing (biotic component) and non-living things
(abiotic) components of the environment.
Describe the principles of the ecosystem.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new COOPERATIVE LEARNING. Students go to their respective group. Instruct
skills # 1 students to go to the science garden and let the students to identify at least 3 living
and 3 non-living things that they can found in the garden. (5 minutes)
Students create own graphic organizer. (5 minutes)
For example:
ECOSYSTEM

Biotic Components Abiotic Components

Producers Temperature

Consumers Nature of Soil

Decomposer etc. Wind etc.

1
F. Developing mastery PRESENTATION. Each group presents their output.
(leads to Formative Assessment 3) DEEPENING THE UNDERSTANDING. Teacher communicates and explains the
principles of ecosystem.
 Principle 1. The ultimate source of energy is the sun.
 Principle 2. Energy flows in the ecological system.
 Principle 3. Matter cycles continually through the web of life.
G. Finding practical application of concepts and DEVELOPING RESPONSIVENESS. Teacher asks questions.
skills in daily living a. What if energy will not flow to the ecosystem, do you think we will survive?
b. How the things in our environment affect us and in return as a human being how
do we affect our environment?
H. Making generalizations and abstractions about CONCEPT AT A GLANCE.
the lesson Teacher asks the students to classify the words written in the metacards in the table.
1. Differentiate between biotic and abiotic component of ecosystem
Biotic Factors Abiotic Factors

2. Describe the three major principles of an ecosystem and give the examples of
each.
Principle #1 Principle #2 Principle #3

I. Evaluating learning PICTURE ANALYSIS. Teacher shows pictures of ecological processes and
students identify the biotic and abiotic components as well as the principle shown.

Picture #1.

Picture #2.

Picture #3.

2
J. Additional activities for application or
remediation
V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the
evaluation

B. No. of learners who require additional activities

for remediation who scored below 80%
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners
who have caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require reme
diation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well?
Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my
principal or supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I
use/discover which I wish to share with other
teachers?
