PREFACE
GAPS Guidelines is published by Global Asset Protection Services LLC (GAPS) for the benefit of its
clients. It is intended to provide GAPS’ philosophy of and interpretations to various nationally
recognized standards that deal with all types of property loss prevention subjects. Where no
standards exist, it will provide broad guidance that identifies proper property protection requirements.
As such, various organizations, contractors, or venders that supply goods and services to our clients
may use it. Several of the agencies referenced in the text are located only in the USA; however,
counterparts of these agencies are generally found in most countries.
The information contained herein is not meant to imply that every possible hazard has been identified
or that no other hazards exist. We specifically disclaim any warranty or representation that
compliance with any advice given in GAPS Guidelines will make a facility or operation safe or
healthful, or put it in compliance with any law, rule, or regulation.

Change Bar
Revisions or additions to technical material are marked with a black vertical change bar in the margin
of the area where the change occurs. Whenever there is such a change, the change bar will cover the
full vertical height of the paragraph containing the change. Grammatical changes and deletions of
material will not be marked.
Where new material is published, or where changes are so extensive as to require a complete
reorganization and/or rewrite, no change bars will be shown.
Suggested Changes
GAPS welcomes suggestions for corrections or additions to the GAPS Guidelines. Please use the
form immediately following this preface to submit those suggestions.
Errata
Errata will be published as necessary for pertinent revisions, which occur between quarterly
publications.
