CHURCH

 The word "Church" (Latin ecclesia, from the Greek ek-ka-lein, to "call out of")
means a convocation or an assembly.
 Ekklesia is used frequently in the Greek Old Testament for the assembly of the
Chosen People before God, above all for their assembly on Mount Sinai where
Israel received the Law and was established by God as his holy people.
 the community of people cutting across all ages and nations, united in one
faith in Christ and His Spirit of love (CFC1355)

Human – because of us people , the community exists in time, operates within
Divine – because of its origin, nature and mission of all which arise from the creative
design of the Father, the redemptive mission of the Son and the sanctifying work
of the Spirit

1. ONE - the church is one because of the founder, Jesus Christ

3. CATHOLIC - word "catholic" means "universal," in the sense of "according to the totality"
or "in keeping with the whole."
4. APOSTOLIC - The Church is apostolic because she is founded on the apostles

Peter – the head of the apostles, the chosen “rock”- upon which Christ build His
Church
ATTRIBUTES OF THE CHURCH
1. Authority – has the power to safeguard the purity of the doctrine and to regulate the
exercise of her mission
2. Infallibility – to teach without error in matters of faith and morals
3. Indefectibility – the gift of perpetuity; that she will last always as promised by Christ

STATES OF THE CHURCH

1. Pilgrim or Militant Church (on earth)


2. Suffering Church (in purgatory)
3. Triumphant Church (in Heaven)

THE PRECEPTS OF CHURCH

1.You shall attend Mass on Sundays and on holy days of obligation.


2.You shall confess your sins at least once a year.
3.You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least once during the Easter season.
4.You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church.
5.You shall help to provide for the needs of the Church.

 The fourth Church Commandment is commonly remembered as abstinence from


meat (but not fish) on Fridays (except solemnities), and abstinence plus restriction to
one meal only on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The details are quite various,
including some countries to allow for a different way of penance on at least ordinary
Fridays. The whole of Lent is of penitential character,[2] though no specified practice is
required.

 is a prayer in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary
 a powerful prayer to obtain the grace of God through the intercession of the

HYPERDULIA – the veneration for the Blessed Virgin Mary

given to the Mother of God.

d. Ark of the Covenant – she contained the Lawgiver of all
e. Gate of Heaven - because we beg her to intercede for us

1. Hail Mary – the first part is a prayer of praise and the second part is prayer of
petition
 in English term “ The Angelical Salutation “
 in Latin term “ Ave Maria”
2. Hail Holy Queen – in Latin term “Salve Regina”
3. Angelus – a prayer recited in the morning, at twelve noon and six in the evening in
honour of Mary and the mystery of Incarnation
