SEMI- DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ECONOMICS

S.Y. 2017-2018

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

 differentiate wants from needs;


 explain Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs and Aldefer’s ERG Theory; and
 give the value of prioritizing needs rather than wants

 If you were to decide on the economic system that we are going
to apply in our country, which do you think is the best to alleviate
our present political and economic condition? Justify your answer.

B. Motivation (Collaborative Activity:)


 The teacher will group the students into three.
 After doing so, have each group to decide on their survival must-
haves by enumerating on the board the 5 things they can only
bring with them just in case they will be stucked in the island . Let
them explain why.

C. Lesson Proper
 The teacher will present different pictures of the common neccesities and
luxury items on the screen and let the students group them into two.

Guide Questions:
 What is your basis in grouping the things on the screen?
 Which of the following are your needs and which are your
wants?

 The teacher will present a comparison of wants and needs.

 Divide the class into three groups.
 Provide each group cut outs of letters which they have to arrange to
formulate the words below.

 Have the students explain each term they have formulated using their
own words.

E. Application (Pair Work: Crossword Puzzle)


 Provide each pair a piece of crossword puzzle.
 Let them fill in the space provided to identify the concept that is being
asked.
 Refer to page 75 of the book for the clues.

IV. EVALUATION
 Have the students sit properly and get one whole sheet of paper.
 According to Maslow’s theory, the higher levels of a person’s needs
cannot be satisfied unless the lower levels of needs are met. Fill in the
pyramid and cite a situation using the need.

V. ASSIGNMENT (Reflection)
 On your notebook, read the following historical excerpt and answer the
following questions. (10 points)

In the 1988 election, the Hierarchy of Needs became an essential tool for the
camp of Joseph Estrada to win by a landslide the Philippine presidential
election.
Questions: In what way did the camp of Estrada use the Hierarchy of Needs?
Why is it an effective tool in politics?
