What is Globalization?
It is “the process by which people and goods move
easily across borders” (World Economic Forum 2017).

It is the process of “expansion and intensification of

social relations and consciousness across world-time
and across world-space” (Steger 2013).
What is Globalization?
It cuts across economic, political, social, cultural, and technological
boundaries among states.
✓The rise of business processing outsourcing industries (BPOs);
✓The emergence of non-governmental organizations and other multi-
national corporations;
✓Fast-paced changes in technological advancements;
✓Westernization of the East and vice-versa; and
✓among other transactions happening worldwide.
Multifaceted Globalization?
Arjun Appadurai, an anthropologist, noted that different kinds of
globalization occur on multiple and intersecting dimensions of
integration called “scapes”
▪Ethnoscape – global movement of people
▪Mediascape – flow of culture
▪Technoscape – circulation of technology
▪Financescape – circulation of money
▪Ideoscape – flow of political ideas
