Faults
Faults are declared as either present or stored (depending on whether they appeared in a certain context and have
disappeared since, or whether they remain present but have not been diagnosed within the current context).
The present or stored status of faults should be taken into consideration when the diagnostic tool is switched on
after the + after ignition feed (without any system components being active).
For a present fault, apply the procedure described in the Interpretation of faults section.
For a stored fault, note the faults displayed and apply the instructions in the Notes section.
If the fault is confirmed when the instructions in the Notes section are applied, the fault is present. Deal with the fault.
Conformity check
The aim of the conformity check is to check data that does not produce a fault on the diagnostic tool because the
data is inconsistent. Therefore, this phase makes it possible to:
– run fault finding on faults that do not have a fault display, and which may correspond to a customer complaint,
– check that the system is operating correctly and that there is no risk of a fault recurring after repairs.
This section gives the fault finding procedures for the statuses and the parameters and the conditions for checking
them.
If a status is not behaving normally or a parameter is outside the permitted tolerance values, consult the
corresponding fault finding page.
If the test with the diagnostic tool is OK but the customer complaint is still present, the fault should be processed by
customer complaints.
A summary of the overall procedure to follow is provided on the following page in the form of a flow chart.

4. FAULT FINDING PROCEDURE (continued)
Wiring check
Visual inspection
Look for damage under the bonnet and in the passenger compartment.
Carefully check the fuses, insulators and wiring harness routing.
Look for signs of oxidation.
Tactile inspection
While manipulating the wiring harness, use the diagnostic tool to note any change in fault status from stored to
present.
Make sure that the connectors are properly locked.
Apply light pressure to the connectors.
Twist the wiring harness.
If there is a change in status, try to locate the source of the fault.
Resistance check
Check the continuity of the complete lines, then section by section.
Look for a short circuit to earth, to + 12 V or to another wire.
If a fault is detected, repair or replace the wiring harness.

5. FAULT FINDING LOG
IMPORTANT
Any fault on a complex system must undergo a thorough fault finding procedure with the
appropriate tools. The FAULT FINDING LOG, which should be completed during the procedure,
enables you to keep track of the fault finding procedure which is carried out. It is an essential
IMPORTANT component when consulting the manufacturer.
IT IS MANDATORY TO FILL IN A FAULT FINDING LOG EVERY TIME THE TECHLINE OR THE
WARRANTY RETURN SERVICE ASKS FOR IT.
6. SAFETY ADVICE
All operations on the airbag system must be carried out by qualified trained personnel.
To prevent any damage or injury, safety rules must be observed during any work on a component:
– make sure that the battery is properly charged to avoid damaging the computers with a low charge,
– use the appropriate tools,
– when working on the airbag system, always use the computer locking command to avoid accidental triggering
(all the trigger lines will be inhibited).
IMPORTANT
When working on the airbag systems, always use the computer locking command to avoid accidental triggering
(all the trigger lines will be inhibited).
The locked mode is indicated by the instrument panel warning light coming on.
Note:
If the operation is being performed following an impact during which the airbags were triggered, locking the
computer will only be possible after an unlocking command has been given.
Following an impact during which the airbags were triggered, it is only possible to clear the stored faults after Read
impact context then Unlocking commands have been given.
Never measure the airbag trigger lines with any device other than XRBAG or using the airbag wiring harness check
function of the CLIP and NXR tools.
Before using a dummy ignition module, ensure that its resistance is between 1.8 and 2.5 Ω.
While working, make sure the computer voltage does not drop below 10 V.

REPLACING A SYSTEM COMPONENT
Disconnect the battery before removing and refitting any pyrotechnic component (airbag module,
pretensioner or seat belt inertia reel).
BEFORE REPLACING THE COMPUTER IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU CONTACT THE TECHLINE.
It is prohibited to use command RZ001 Clear fault memory when DF001 Computer is present or stored, to
allow the failure of the returned computer to be analysed.
The airbag computers are sold in locked mode to avoid all risk of accidental triggering (all trigger lines are inhibited).
The locked mode is signalled by the instrument panel warning light coming on.

CLEARING
CONFIGURATION/CONFIGURATION READING
– To make it easier to configure the TEMIC AIRBAG computer, the diagnostic tool has automatic
configuration commands for the trigger lines and sensors based on the equipment installed in the various
models.
However, the commands in the following table are used to configure each system component
individually to adapt the computer configuration to the actual equipment in the vehicle.
– The read-configuration commands (LCxxx) are used to display the current computer configuration in relation
to the trigger lines and sensors fitted to the vehicle.
– The configuration commands (CFxxx) are used to adjust computer configuration to the equipment actually
fitted to the vehicle.

NOTES the passenger airbag with the key. After this time, the computer will store this fault and
light up the instrument panel warning light. Switching the ignition off and on again re-
establishes the system operation.
Set the locking switch to the desired position, switch off the ignition and wait for a few seconds.
Switch the ignition back on and clear the computer fault memory.
If the fault is still present, contact the Techline.
Carry out the check again using the diagnostic tool and, if there is no fault, unlock the
AFTER REPAIR
computer.

ALP1 No dialogue with the airbag computer
NOTES None.
Try to establish dialogue with a computer on another vehicle to make sure that the diagnostic tool is not the source
of the fault. If the tool is not causing the fault and dialogue cannot be established with any other computer on the
same vehicle, it may be that a faulty computer is disrupting diagnostic line K .
Proceed by successive disconnections to locate this computer.
Check the voltage of component 107 and carry out the necessary operations to obtain the correct voltage (10.5 V
< battery voltage < 16 V).
Check the presence and condition of the airbag computer supply fuse. Check that the computer connector is
appropriately connected and check the condition of its connections. Check that the computer is correctly supplied:
– disconnect the airbag computer and use adapter Elé. 1484-10 to work on the computer connector,
– check and ensure there is a + after ignition feed between connections AP10 and NAP.
If the connection or connections are faulty and there is a repair method (see Technical Note 6015A, Repairing
electrical wiring, Wiring: Precautions for repair), repair the connector, otherwise replace the wiring.
If there is still no communication after all these tests, replace the airbag computer (see Replacing components).
AFTER REPAIR When dialogue is established, deal with any faults indicated.
