Bohemian Rhapsody movie review

Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury

Gwyilm Lee as Brian May

Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor

Joe Mazzello as John Deacon

The story began with Farroukh Bulsara (later known as Freddie Mercury), an immigrant’s child
who wanted to break free from his parent’s future expectation. Mercury grew fond of music and played
piano. He then Brian May and Roger Taylor through the latter’s band, Smile. Mercury saw them
performed at a pub and became interested in joining them. But, not long after that, Smile’s vocalist, Tim
something left May and Taylor alone, whose position was replaced by Mercury. Later on, John Deacon
joined the band and they renamed the band as Queen. They became a massive hit, albums and tickets
sold out every time. The success caught the eyes of John Reid and Paul Prenter, who became their
manager. This lead to Queen’s worldwide fame, as they began touring in USA, Japan, and many other
countries across the globe. But when the band reached the top of their success, Mercury and his band
mates’ relationship seemed to drifted off as Mercury became closer and closer to Prenter, almost lover-
like close. And all of the media’s attention to the front man himself wore him viciously. Mercury wanted
to take a break and went solo, like what Prenter suggested. The main problem began when Prenter
pushed Mercury’s band mates and friends aside and only accepted what benefitted himself. Mercury
just went with his way. Unfortunately, he got really ill to the point that his body seemed to not working
properly. Mary Austin, Mercury’s friend, went to visit him one day and woke his mind up. She made him
realized that he needed them, Austin and his band mates. He acknowledged it, so he returned to them
and apologized. They forgave him and got offered a big gig, which is Live Aid 1985. A charity concert for
the people in Africa. Queen agreed to performed there and prepared. Mercury couldn’t sing much. The
fact that he had AIDS was the main reason why. It shook the rest of the band very greatly. But, that
didn’t stop them from performing in Live Aid. Their performance was noted as the greatest rock concert
in history. Mercury, May, Taylor and Deacon really blasted their way through the sky.

Bohemian Rhapsody was released around November 2018 around the world. This movie was
directed by Bryan Singer and, and produced by Brian May and Roger Taylor themselves. Starring Rami
Malek as Freddie Mercury, Gwyilm Lee as Brian May, Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor and Joe Mazzello as
John Deacon, this movie brought a new taste on biographic (?) movies, with a hint of drama and
musical. Perhaps, it will take you on a time travel to 70s and 80s through its concert like
cinematography.

Like mentioned before, Bohemian Rhapsody will urge you to scream the lyrics to Queen songs
while they played on the big screen. Especially if you enjoy their music for a long time, or just enjoy
them generally. Even if you’re not a big fan of them, or just know them, there’s a big chance for you to
really like the movie as a whole. The crew successfully delivered the story of Queen, though it’s not
really accurate. No worries, the flaw won’t be that noticeable to the point that it bothers anyone. It still
did the late Freddie Mercury justice. It also may bring you on the verge of tears throughout the movie
with its drama filled story and ending. Especially with the fact that Rami Malek’s acting as Mercury is
really magnificent and how the casts look so much like the actual Queen. How they performed in stage
as them is surreal and energetic. You can really see how much they worked and prepared for each of
their role. Props to all of the casts and crews.

Overall, this movie succeeded at introducing Queen to the now movie and raise their glory
again. You might find yourself listening to their songs non-stop and becoming their fan after watching
this movie. And don’t forget to bring tissues to cinema.
