M3 Assignment: Museum Exhibit, Art Artifacts

I. The theme I have chosen for my museum exhibit is art. Art is anything that has been created by
any individual who sees potential beauty or purpose in what they are making. I chose art from
the six themes because art is so eclectic. It has no boundaries. No matter who you are or where
you are, you can let your creative mind set flow and create whatever you want. Art can tell us so
much about different cultures. Cave paintings express stories from years before our time, and
because they were left behind, we can look at them and determine what we think they meant
for ourselves. Statues have the tendency of being made to represent highly known or widely
respected people. These help to determine if there might have been a king as ruler of a
civilization or whether they may have believed in a god/religion.

II. The six artifacts I chose to support the theme of art:

a. Vessel: This vessel is a sculpture of a girl’s face with a bowl formed

into the top of the head. The bowl would have been used to carry
various things to certain ceremonies. The vessel is a sure piece of
art due to the molding of a very distinguishable face. This piece is
important because it tells us that who ever made it wanted to do
more than what was necessary. They could have just made a bowl,
but they felt the importance of sculping it into something more. This vessel was made
between 2600 and 2350 BCE.
b. Goddess Lama Statue: This goddess Lama statue is a sculpture of
the goddess who was viewed to be the protector of not only
warriors, but to all citizens as well. The significance of this sculpture
is the fact that it tells us that this particular civilization believed in
this particular god and most likely looked up to it. This statue was
made between 1307 and 1282 BCE.
c. Standing Warrior: This standing warrior statue is a very detailed
sculpture of a full man’s body. The significance of this piece of art is
that it represents those who are brave and can be used to tell
stories of past victories or defeats. This statue was made in 300 BCE.

d. Female Worshiper: This statue is the bod of a woman dressed in what

seems to be some type of cloth or gown. The importance of this
artifact is that it represents that someone from this time saw the
importance in women and felt the needs to express I more than just
words This statue was made between 2600 and 2500 BCE.
e. Banquet Scene: This is a tablet of stone that is sketched with the
bodies of servants and guests at what seems to be a banquet. The
importance of this artifact is that it could have been a form of
recording an important event that occurred in this civilization. This
tablet was created between 2600 and 2500 BCE.

f. Statue of Gudea: This is a statue of a man named Gudea. This

artifact is important because it shows that he was a highly known
man and well respected. This was created in 2090 BCE.
