People’s definition of love differs in one way or another. Some says it’s a certain feeling
that makes you feel as if you’re lying on the clouds or floating in the air. Others also says. It’s
something which has the capacity to destroy one’s world or thinking. But the greatest question
is, what does love really means? What is its purpose? What does it look like? How do you describe
it in the first place?
To know more about love and to basically understand its concept, I interviewed four
people. The very first person that I asked was one of the members of our family which is my
sister. The moment I asked her, she actually thought I was just mocking her, so she gave me a set
of answers which I think are partly a joke and partly genuine. Love for her is something that
makes the world go round. It is something which the world lacks as of the moment. She also said
that Love is our mom and dad and that it is ineffable.
The second person I asked was one of my closest junior high school friend. His name’s
Jude and according to him, “Love is an island of emotions surrounded by the sea of expenses”. He
explained that love always seeks to sacrifice. It is not always about how you feel and how much
you love each other. That is why he used the word ‘expenses’ because as for him, there are certain
points in a person’s life wherein you need to give up something for the sake of the ones you love.
For example, when you go and work abroad for the sake of your family and because of the
primary reason that you love them to the point where you’re willing to give up everything for
them. This just means that you’ve sacrificed a lot just so they could feel the depth of your love
towards them.
The third or second to the last person I asked was a complete stranger. I randomly selected
a name on my Instagram followers and sent them a message containing the question which I’d
liked them to answer. Among the two people I asked, only one gave her answer. Her name is
Cybill, and she said “Basically, love has no specific meaning, it’s really hard to define since it comes in
many forms but love in my very own perspective is something that is selfless, it doesn’t require you to be
pretty or smart or rich, as long as you are ready to sacrifice your own happiness just to see the one you love
happy. I guess the perfect example of that love is from our parents, family members, a love between a wife
and a husband and of course, Jesus Christ himself. Love does not demand, true love gives and gives and
gives without asking anything in return. Call it whatever you like-martyrdom, or being masochistic but
for me a true reflection of love is like the love of God. Its agape, it’s selfless because true love comes from
God and God is love”.
Lastly, is myself. For hours, I’ve been contemplating what the essence of love truly is in
every person’s life. Based on the three poems or literary pieces we have discussed on the past
meetings, wherein the word ‘love’ was given or provided with different meanings or definition
such as that love is somehow a process- it takes time, work and effort. It is constant, steadfast or
unshaken and most of all, it is said to be the essence of all our actions. With this said, I’ve come
to know that love is indeed “Everything”. It is something which can make a person feel certain
types of emotion. It is the force that pushes an individual to do something beyond his or her
capability. Love can make you remember and make you forget at the same time. It can help you
grow yet it can also destroy you in some way. Love does not seek for something perfect but rather
it sees through imperfections and accepts them either way. It is a pattern of devotion and not just
a one-time thing. It entails sacrifice and lastly, it goes even beyond the walls of the afterlife.
