COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class is part one of two in the study
of world geography. We study Earth
and how to use maps, and other
geographic representations, tools and
technologies to process information from
a spatial perspective; how people create
regions to interpret Earth’s complexity;
how forces of cooperation and conflict
influence the division and control of
Earth’s surface; how humans affect the
physical environment; how physical
systems affect humans systems and how
they function together. All of these tools
are used and applied to the Western
Hemisphere through the regions of the
United States and Canada and Latin
America. We apply geography to
interpret the past, explain the present,
and plan for the future.
CLASS ORGANIZATION AND
TEACHING METHODS:
Plan to learn through lectures,
discussions, power points, interactive
activities, independent research, group
projects, essays, reading, games, and
creativity.

Make-up Work/Late Work Policies:
Students shall be given the
opportunity to complete make-up work
for all absences. Students have 1 day for
every day absent to complete and turn in
any make-up work. It is the student’s
responsibility to ask the teacher for all
make-up assignments.
GOALS:
Enable students to sufficiently apply the
concepts of scale, distance, direction,
relative location, latitude and longitude;
analyze patterns and processes of global
economic interdependence, developed
and developing countries, economic
activities, and world trade; interpret,
evaluate and offer solutions for people,
places and environments of regions and
cultures in the western hemisphere;
develop global literacy and innovative
thinking to create effective citizens in
modern society.
