Photoshop Rain Effect

This is Photoshop rain effect tutorial. The first step that needs to be done is to increase the size of each
photo canvas 100 pixels on all sides, in order to obtain the effect of natural rain water. The next step,
create a new layer to the effects of rain. We give the layer blend mode to Screen and fill with black.
Then add noise, add blur, add motion blur and last, set the amount of rainwater on the photo using the
command levels or we can create adjustment layer levels. The direction of rain can be determined by
adjusting the angle on the window motion blur.

1. Open the Photo Then Increase Canvas Size.


Choose File> Open command in the top menu to open your picture. Choose Image> Canvas Size to
increase the size of the canvas. In the Canvas Size window, enter the width and height of 100 pixels.
Do not forget to check the Relative checkbox. Click the OK button.

Open a photo, and add the size of the canvas.

2. Create a New Layer For Rain Effect.


Choose Layer> New Layer to create a new layer. In the New Layer window, please fill in the name of
the layer, set the mode to Screen and check Fill with Neutral Color Screen (Black). Click the OK
button.

3. Add Noise At Layer Rain.


Click to verify Rain layer as the active layer. Choose Filter> Noise> Add Noise. Please fill in the
amount, select Gaussian and check Monochromatic. Click the OK button.
Add Noise.

4. Add Blur.
Give the rain blur on the layer by choosing Filter> Blur> Blur.
Add Blur.

5. Add Motion Blur.


Choose Filter> Blur> Motion Blur. Adjust the direction of the fall of rain to fill in angle and size of rain
water by filling Distance. Click the OK button.

6. Adjust the amount of rainwater By Levels.


Choose Layer>New Adjustments Layer>Levels. You simply slide the slide-in Input Levels slider to set
the desired amount of rain water. When finished click the OK button. You can use these steps to add
falling snow to an image using Photoshop or GIMP.
Set the Levels.

7. Crop Canvas.
Click the icon Magic Wand Tool. Click on the image border. Selection will appear around the
photograph on Layer 1. Inverse the selection by choosing menu Select>Inverse and then crop the
photos by choosing Image> Crop.
Crop area selection by choosing Image> Crop.
