REFLECTION

Drama lesson
301

This week, we made some activities in the class. They were tend to improve
our vision. One of them was the village of the Smirks. We behaved as if there
were a villlage in the class. They were sleeping, so we tried to walk without
waking up them. Some may say that it was just an acting out but when we
investigated its impact, we can infer lots of things to apply it in the future. But
before that I want to mention why we should use it. Firstly, this activity is about
observation. Then it improves creative thinking and the feeling of “we” , that is,
we belong to a community. Also, it is important in terms of co-operation with
the others in the class. If I handle it thinking that how and what I can teach to the
students with this activitiy, I may say that I can use it to teach and practise
different structures or skills such as speaking, writing, tenses, etc. making some
differences on it. For example; “ What did you see?(past tense)” “ How many
house are there in the village?(numbers)” . These samples can be enhanced.

In the other activity, the teacher showed us a picture. It was a picture of

London. He divided the class into two groups. The members of each group
became one thing in the picture such as ship, tower, buldings, etc. using their
bodies. It was very interesting activity for me because I have never done such a
thing before. Therefore, I watched and did it enthusiasticly. I want to see the
conclusion actually. Like me, my friends liked it, too. I think this activity is very
useful. How? The students create their own context, guess what it is like. They
will be much more interested in the lesson. It is also beneficial in terms of co-
operation, the sense of belonging community, observation about what is going
on in the class, their feelings and active learning. In the future, I can use this
activity to practise comperative-superlative, present continious tense, telling the
names of the objects, adjectives, some adverbs, counting the numbers, writing,
colors and so on.
Besides, we have studied on ‘humor’. Today, I have impresssed by this
sentence “ One of the greatest sins in teaching is to be boring.” Actually, it
explains the importance of the sense of humor effectively. Why is it so
important? It supplies taking risks, participation, smooth transition, learning
naturally and creating curiosity. Thus, the learner find the courage to speak in
the lessons. That is, communication which is the most important aim of the
language courses is ensured in the class. If we talk about its features, we can say
that there should be a balance not to lose control. Jokes should be subject-related
not isolated. So, we should regard these points, also. Shortly, it can be said that
humor is more than must.
