13. Illustrated Parts List

A. Purpose

This section is for use in requisitioning, storing, issuing, and for

readily identifying replaceable parts during maintenance and overhaul
operations.

B. Effect Code

Master coding is used only where a breakdown of more than one article
is made in one list. Each article is listed with an assigned alpha­
betical capitalized code letter. The code letter applicable to each
type is shown at the beginning of the first Detailed Parts List. All
parts and assemblies which are components of the listed types bear
the same code letter as that type. The code letter will appear in
the Effect Code Column.

C. Assembly Code

All assemblies and their components are listed in the order of dis­
assembly except for attaching parts. Attaching parts follow immedi­
ately after the part or assembly being detached and precede any
components of said item. These parts are captioned IIATTACHING PARTS",
and the symbol (-*-) separates them from subsequent parts in the
listing.

D. Explanation of Part Numbering System

Kollsman currently employs an eleven digit numbering system which is

described below.

(1) Format for end item or finished product part number is as follows:

A Commodity Code prefix ("85" minor, "87" major subassembly;

"61" screws, nuts, washers, "83" dials; etc.)
B - Basic type number
C - Design revision code number
D - Basic subassembly or part number
E - Subassembly or part revision code number

(3) Parts in use which are interchangeable with early design

Kollsman products contain a two part dash number; the first
group of numbers reflects the type number of the article while
the numbers following the dash are the actual part number. The
letters following each of these groups indicate changes on the
type or part number. Parts containing revision letters do not
contain dashes. Parts containing an X prefix are standard
purchased parts.

E. Locating Part or Part Numbers

(1) If a part number is shown, locate the part number in the Numer­
ical Index, note corresponding figure and item number and locate
on applicable illustration.

(2) If a part number is unknown, locate major component or main as­

sembly where it is contained and locate part on applicable
illustration. Note item number of part and refer to applicable
Detailed Parts List for part number and nomenclature.

F. List of Manufacturers

The vendor's code is used in the description column of the Detailed

Parts List for parts which may be obtained from sources other than
Kollsman Instrument Company. When there are two or less vendor codes,
the vendor's name and address will be located in the description
column of the Detailed Parts List.

Overhaul instructions for models included in this section are the same
as the overhaul instructions for altimeters with 20,000 and 35,000 feet
ranges and baro scales in inches Hg or millibars except for the specific
differences noted by the applicable difference data sheet. Refer to

CODE OFF FLAG

Description and Operation - Same as for basic manual except CODE OFF flag is
used in place of CODE ON annunciating device. When the encoded output is
operating, the CODE OFF flag is not visible on the dial face. Refer to figure
1301 in lieu of figure 1 in basic manual.

Dismantling - Same as for basic manual except include removal of Indicator (450,
figure 1201) in paragraph E.

Disassembly - Same as for basic manual.

Cleaning - Same as for basic manual.

Inspection/Check - Same as for basic manual.

Repair - Same as for basic manual.

Assembly - Same as for basic manual except as follows: following step (:3) in
paragraph I, attach indicator (450, figure 1201) to front support (550) with
two screws (460) and lockwashers (470).

Fits and Clearances - Same as for basic manual.

Testing - Same as for basic manual except in paragragh J (CODE ON Signal Test)
substitute the following: With power applied to the altimeter, observe that
the CODE OFF flag is out of view. Remove power from altimeter and observe
that CODE OFF flag is in view.

Troubleshooting - Same as for basic manual except as follows: in Indication

column of table 901, substitute CODE OFF flag inoperative in lieu of CODE ON
signal inoperative; in Probable Cause column add step (c) - defective solenoid;
in Remedy column add step (d) - Check solenoid and replace if found defective.

NOTE: Refer to figures 1302 through 1304 in lieu of

figures 901 through 903 in basic manual.
