I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the relationship
between faults and earthquakes.
B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to participate in decision making on where
to build structures based on knowledge of the location of active faults
in the community and make an emergency plan and prepare an
emergency kit for use at home and in school.
Learners will be able to:

IV. PROCEDURES Materials

A. ELICIT Strategy: LAYERS OF THE EARTH
The teacher shows a model of the layers of the Earth.
Then the students name the parts. Lastly, the teacher
asks where they think earthquakes are produced.

layers of the Earth

B. ENGAGE Strategy: CRASHING ALIEN X, Y, Z

The students are asked to reveal the hidden terms
through crashing the aliens. The aliens are letters x, y
and z. The terms that will be revealed are the terms PowerPoint
they will encounter in the lesson. Presentation

C. EXPLORE Strategy: ACTIVITY/EXPERIMENT
The students are to accomplish Activity 1 (A Fault- Science 8
y Setup) on their Learner’s Module, page 116-118. Learner’s Module

D. EXPLAIN Strategy: DISCUSSION

The teacher facilitates the discussion of the Science 8
answers of the students on the guide questions. Learner’s Module

E. ELABORATE Strategy: QUICK THINKING

• How are faults formed? Picture of race car
• What potential dangers are posed by faults?

F. EVALUATE Strategy: IDENTIFICATION

The students are to answer a 5-item identification Notebook and
test. pen

G. EXTEND Strategy: ASSIGNMENT

Let the students research about the two cities
approaching each other. These are the cities of Notebook and
San Francisco and Los Angeles in California. pen, internet
1. What fault line do these two cities lie?
2. Why does it seem that they are approaching each
other?
3. Is this event happening very soon?

V. REFLECTION
It is important to let the students relate their activity to localized real
life examples for them to have an authentic learning.
