DESIGN OF VELOCITYMETER
Velocity is defined as a distance covered by any object with respect to time. normally we can
find velocity using formula,

Distance
Velocity = Time

If we want to measure velocity directly i.e. display of value of velocity directly than we suppose
to design instrument or a device which is known as VELOCITYMETER. To design velocity
meter we need tachometer to measure the speed of rotor, digital multimeter to measure voltage
produce by the dc motor which will in contact with the rotor. When we switch on the rotor then
dc motor will also rotate because its contact with belt or rotor .since DMM is connected to dc
motor we get velocity value in terms of voltage.
Observation table:-

Sr. no Speed Velocity Experimental

(rpm) (m/sec) voltage (v)
1 1440 5.27 .57
2 1238 4.53 .49
3 1175 4.30 .47
4 1055 3.86 .42

Calculation:-
𝜋𝐷𝑁
1) Velocity = 60

𝜋×7×10−2 ×1440
= 60

= 5.27 m\sec
𝜋𝐷𝑁
2) Velocity = 60

𝜋×7×10−2 ×1238
=
60

= 4.53 m\sec

Calculation table:-

Sr. no Speed Velocity Experimental Theoretical % ERROR

(rpm) (m/sec) voltage (v) velocity(m/sec)
1 1440 5.27 0.57 0.56 1.75
2 1238 4.53 0.49 0.48 2.04
3 1175 4.30 0.47 0.46 2.12
4 1055 3.86 0.42 0.43 2.38

For calibration

If velocity velocity in voltage

5.27 .57

So if we want to find velocity in terms of voltage using initial velocity calibration,

(m/sec) (Volt)

5.27 .57

4.53 X
.57×.4.53
∴ X = 5.27

∴ X = .48

.57−.56
% Error =
.57
× 100

= 1.75%

1.75+2.04+2.12+2.38
Average Error = 4

= 2.0725

CONCLUSION: - Theoretical value of velocity and Experimental value of velocity measured by

Velocity meter are approximately same
