Conclusion

On the basis of the ffindinvs of this study, it is concluded that the first year BSED-English students have
only an average level of ability to recognize and correct grammatical errors. The students need enhance
their skills in grammar by developing the habit of reading books and using the dictionary when necessary
to determine the correct spelling of words. Their low level of ability in tenses is an indication that they
lack knowledge on verb tenses, which they are accepted to have mastered when they took their basic
English courses. This could be a factor affecting their reading comprehension which is very crucial when
taking board exams like the Licencesure Examination for Teachers (LET)
