concrete, that is used to create flat horizontal surfaces such as floors, roof decks and ceilings. A slab is generally several inches thick and supported by beams, columns, walls, or the ground. REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB
Concrete slabs can be prefabricated
off-site and lowered into place or may be poured in-situ using formwork.
If reinforcement is required, slabs
can be pre-stressed or the concrete can be poured over rebar positioned within the formwork. REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB
TYPES OF SLABS
Type of slab used in construction sectors are:
1. One-way solid slab and beam 2. Two-way solid slab and beam 3. One-way joist construction 4. Two-way flat slab or flat plate without beams 5. Two-way joist construction, called waffle construction REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB
1. One-way solid slab and beam
One way slab is a slab which is
supported by beams on the two opposite sides to carry the load along one direction
The ratio of the short span to the long
span of a slab is less then 0.50. REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB
2. Two-way solid slab and beam
Two Way Slab. Two way slabs are
the slabs that are supported on four sides and the ratio of longer span (l) to shorter span (b) is less than 2. In two way slabs, load will be carried in both the directions. So, main reinforcement is provided in both direction for two way slabs REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB
3. One-way joist construction
One-way concrete-joist construction
consists of a monolithic combination of cast-in-place, uniformly spaced ribs (joists) and top slab .
The ribs are formed by placing rows of
permanent or removable fillers in what would otherwise be a solid slab. REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB
4. Two-way flat slab or flat plate
without beams A flat slab is a two-way reinforced concrete slab that usually does not have beams and girders, and the loads are transferred directly to the supporting concrete columns REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB

5. Two-way joist construction,
called waffle construction A waffle slab is a type of slab with holes underneath, giving an appearance of waffles. It is usually used where large spans are required (e.g auditorium) to avoid many columns interfering the space.
