the new functionality.
Most Select features are enforced by Manager, Web Manager or
core software.
Completely new set of feature licenses for Select will be available
only in PLDS.
– For upgraded systems all existing ADI licenses will become
dormant after switching to Select.
– A new PLDS license file must be obtained to replace all
existing ADI licenses as well as provide the new R9.1 licenses.

H323 and SIP Registration Protection Feature Overview
The IP Office H323 Gatekeeper and SIP Registrar will support resistance to
brute force attacks

SSA, SNMP, and Syslog alarms and audit trail log will be generated once an
Extension or IP Address pair or IP address has been blocked.

Entries with last failed attempt older than 20 minutes are removed from the
failed list.

 Times and intervals:

 10 maximum retries before IP Address/Extension pair is blacklisted;
 1 minute blacklist interval for IP Address\Extension pair;
 20 maximum retries before IP Address is blacklisted;
 5 minutes blacklist interval for IP Address;
20 minutes before an attempt is removed from failure lists. Timer will run
every 20 minutes

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

H323 and SIP Registration Protection Feature Overview
Every time someone tries a non existent extension or tries a wrong
password on an existent extension the system will add a failed attempt to
the Ip Address based lockout.
Someone tries to login on an extension that exists but enters the wrong
password, a failed attempt will be added to the Ip address/Extension
blocking list.
When a temporary lock out occurs, a system alarm
(SSA/SMTP/SNMP/Syslog) will be generated, and an entry made in the
audit trail.
H323 and Sip registrars will keep common lists of failed attempts, one per
Extension/Ip Address and one per Ip Address. After 10 failed retries the Ip
Address\Extn will be blocked for 60 seconds or. After 20 failed retries the Ip
Address will be blocked for an interval of 5 minutes. If a failed retry will time
out after 10 minutes it will be reset and replaced with a new one.

Hunt Group Fallback Enhancements
Administrators may select Hunt Groups, A user (Directory or System contacts),
or A Shortcode for destination.
Applicable for both Night Service and Out Of Service destinations
 Example:
Night calls are sent to an answering service by an Incoming Call Route . This is
on an automatic time base with no manual override
Common practice uses Night Service and Out-Of-Service Fallback options in the
Hunt Group settings
 Labor intensive :
Create a new hunt group as a Fallback Destination for the main
group
 Enable hunt group forwarding
Create one dummy user, add it to the new hunt group
Forward the dummy's calls to the preferred destination
– Solution: Fallback options eliminate all the extra administration steps.
Destinations now have same destinations as Incoming Call Routes do
Night service and other requirements are now much easier on the
administrator or technician to implement and to troubleshoot

3rd Party Auto Answer Feature

SIP-based devices do not always have the capabilities to accept a normal SIP
page

SIP standards are not well enough defined to cover all features - may not be
implemented as expected

A new drop-down on the SIP Extension VoIP tab has been added, with
caption "3rd Party Auto Answer" and options "None" (default), "RFC 5373",
"answer-after", "device auto answers"

Provides wider compatibility for 3rd party, generic, standard SIP extensions.

When setting is not "None", the device will be able to accept Page and Auto
Answer calls, including reverse call for CTI Make Call.

May apply to other devices such as door phones and "walkie talkie" radio

SIP Line Simplified Configuration - Overview
There have been four enhancements with to simplify IPO 9.1’s SIP Line
Configuration. Here are the changes:

1. Reorganized the tab into logical groupings, moved uncommon items

to the SIP Line tab

2. Created a new SIP Line Advanced tab to house the more rarely used
special settings.

3. Created a new SIP Line Engineering tab to be explicit about

configuration items that should not generally be adjusted in a
production network.

4. Created SIP Line Custom Strings as a per-line evolution from the

NoUser Source Numbers (NUSNs).

Template Enhancements Overview
There have been four enhancements with to simplify IPO 9.1’s SIP Trunk
Templates:
1. Setting the template creation ability in Manager is now controlled by
Manager menu item rather than by a registry key. It is located here:
File/Preferences/Visual Preferences//Enable Template Creation
2. The ability to create a new SIP Line from template is now defaulted to
enabled, but configurable. It is located here:
File/Preferences/Visual Preferences/Enable Template Options
3. Allows the use of 8.1 and 9.0 templates, defaulting the missing fields.

4. Makes template creation more intuitive and consistent.

Reduced & Managed Service Disruption Overview
The impact of Saving a SIP Trunk configuration has 3 categories:
1. Merge – No disruption to existing calls - Changes are applied at the
earliest available free opportunity.
2. Merge with Service Disruption* – Changes will temporarily take the SIP
Trunk out of service in order to apply the change. This has the effect of
tearing down established calls made over that trunk. All other system
services are unaffected.

Secure Sys Monitor login and data

Two new protocols have been added to the existing Sys Monitor interface:
HTTP and HTTPS; both use Web Sockets
 2 User Stories delivered.

Story ID Description
IPOFFICE-60637 Secure Sys Monitor login

The existing core Sys Monitor service (TCP + UDP 50794) which is
unsecure for both login and data was upgraded to support secure login

IPOFFICE-60668 Secure Sys Monitor data

The Sys Monitor data is routed via a new web socket. The IP Office acts as
the Web Socket server, Sys Monitor is the client.
Both HTTP and HTTPS options available, the authentication is RFC2617
basic for HTTPS and RFC2617 digest for HTTP
The Web Socket server port is the same as the default HTTP port (80,
configurable) or HTTPS port (443, configurable)

Sys Monitor GUI changes
A couple of new controls were added to the connect window for Sys
Monitor, which are grayed out for old legacy UDP and TCP interfaces:
port, certificate, username

Sys Monitor GUI changes
For HTTPS only, a browse option was added to select which certificate to use
The certificate can be selected from certificates present in the Windows
Trusted Certificate Store for the Current User
If no certificate is selected then Sys Monitor will auto generate a self signed
certificate

Manager changes
New HTTP and HTTPS protocols authenticate via Service Users
A new right was added to the System Status rights group called Sys Monitor access
The right is enabled by default for the System Status Group
By default for 9.1 the only default Security User that can be used for Sys Monitor access
is Administrator
The user can define new Security Users to use for login to Sys Monitor by checking Sys
Monitor access right for the newly created user

Manager Security Settings changes

Unsecured Interfaces tab in Security Settings now has DevLink

checkbox and Use Service User Credentials option
If DevLink unchecked, old legacy Sys Monitor interfaces (UDP and
TCP) are disabled

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

Security Users default password change

For 9.1, there is a new requirement that Security Users must change the
default passwords
If a login is attempted to the IP Office with the Manager using the default
password, the user will be prompted to change the password:

If we try to connect using Sys Monitor with the default password, the
application will give us a message stating that the password must be first
changed using the Manager:

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

Invalid password notification

For HTTP and HTTPS, in the case of a failed login we receive a 4xx error
code and we use it in the Sys Monitor application to tell the user why the login
fails:

In order to be able to also give a similar notification for old legacy interfaces a
minor protocol change had to be implemented ( Sys Monitor legacy interface
did not previously give any feedback on failed logins, it would just drop the udp
or tcp connection ):

IP Office Server Edition 9.1
Security – Certificate/PKI Improvements

Three main areas of Certificate/PKI improvements in 9.1:

Primary and Application servers now have a Certificate Authority
(CA):
Better distribution of server ID certificates:
 More useful Linux certificate support:

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

IP Office Server Edition 9.1
Security – PKI Trust Domains

Server Edition now has three basic approaches to setting up the

certificate infrastructure:
 1) Keep everything at default:
– Used where SE has no external/public interfaces and is
completely within a secure/closed environment.
 2) Use the Primary’s CA to generate an ID certificate for all nodes:
– Used where SE has external/public interfaces but no need to be
part of a 3rd party trust domain.
 3) Use a 3rd Party CA and purchase ID certificate for all nodes:
– Same as option #2, but now with added $$$.
– Advantage over #2 is the purchased certificates will be already
trusted by browsers and UC clients.

New Scale and Optimization Dual VoiceMail Pro

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

Dual VM Pro Scale for 9.1

SE Voicemail Pro Dual Active to 500 ports.

IP Office 9.1 running Select can support 2 active Voicemail Pro
systems.
– One on Primary.
– One on Secondary.
– Both support a maximum of 250 channels – dependent on server
platform.
Users on Primary use the Voicemail on the Primary.
Users on Secondary use Voicemail on the Secondary.
Expansion systems can be configured to use either.
– No load balancing.

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

Introducing Dual VMPro
Release 9 Server Edition supports one active Voicemail Pro server at a time. The
Primary Voicemail Pro server is always present, with an optional backup Voicemail
Pro server on the Secondary.

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

Dual VMPro
Release 9.1 will support two active Voicemail Pro servers; the main drivers for this
feature are increased solution capacity and choice of processing location.

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

Dual VMPro
The two Voicemail Pro servers are both active for a configured subset of users.
They share common configuration and message store, each can support all
mailboxes, MWI and call flows under failure conditions.
The two VMPro servers will continually synchronise between them, as at present for
Master/Backup. This will harmonize configuration and message stores
When only Primary present, VMPro operation will be as R9.0
Upgrades of Server Edition 8.1 and 9.0 will be unchanged, but can enable dual
VMPro if required
Dual VMPro operation on Basic/Preferred IP Office, UCM and Application Server
not supported.
The current R9 failback controls (Manual/Graceful/Automatic) will continue to be
supported. However, the default will be changed to Graceful.

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

Dual VMPro - ACR
A single Contact Recorder instance is supported, either on Primary or separate
Application Server.
The Primary VMPro will require activating by a local Recordings Administrator
license.
The Primary VMPro when active will archive recordings for the whole SE solution.
On Primary failure, the Secondary VMPro will collect the recordings for the whole
SE solution and when the primary comes up again, these will be transferred to the
primary, from where the recordings will be archived by the ACR

© 2014 Avaya, Inc. All rights reserved.

Dual VMPro Administration and Configuration
In order to enable Dual Mode, the Voicemail type should be selected as Voicemail
Lite/Pro on both Primary and Secondary

Licensing Enhancements

MAC Softphone Licensing Enhancements

1. A new license called IP Mac softphone was created for the new Mac
Softphone

2. The older versions of the Mac softphone and Windows softphone will
not be distributed, but customers can still use them after they upgrade

3. The older MAC and Windows softphone clients must use a new
Legacy softphone license

4. The new license which will be automatically generated (one time only)
by the upgrade. The number of licenses generated depends on the
number of Power Users + Teleworkers + Mobile Workers and Office
Workers (the latter two also require upgrade licenses, i.e. Mobile
Worker Upgrade and Office Worker Upgrade)

5. Customer who have purchased new Mac licenses should upgrade their
MACOS and use the newest MAC client. Otherwise they run a risk of
having old MAC clients that cannot access their new MAC Softphone
licenses. New MAC clients will try to use the new license first, if none
is available it will look for an old one that is available

3rd Party Auto Answer Feature Overview

In releases up to and including 9.0, 3rd party SIP devices

did not have the right capabilities to accept a page.
The required capability is the ability to automatically
answer presented calls (this is also needed for CTI Make
Call and intercom auto answer).
A new drop-down on the SIP Extension VoIP tab has
been added, with caption "3rd Party Auto Answer" and
options "None" (default), "RFC 5373", "answer-after",
"device auto answers".
This setting only applies to 3rd party, generic, standard
SIP extensions.
When setting is not "None", the device will be able to
accept Page and Auto Answer calls, including reverse call
for CTI Make Call.

Media Media Security (SRTP) – offered on all Transport Types and Network Levels.
Security

WebSockets (RFC 6455) are bi-directional HTTP or HTTPS communication pipes

initiated from a client to a server. They are designed to permit clients behind local a
Web NAT/firewall to traverse the internet to a server by using well known ports and
protocols.
Sockets When used in IP Office deployments, the system with the WebSocket Server line must
be reachable by clients via a static public IP address. This address is configured on the
WebSocket Client line. As connections are initiated by the Client, the public IP address
of the Client side system is not required at configuration time by the Server side
system. For identity purposes and Solution Management, the private IP address of the
interface over which the link is made is required.

ASG Services : High Level Details
These are ASG services high level details:

ASG Service Details

1. Will run by default on port 2222

2. For improved security, will run by default over SSL VPN

interfaces

3. Has three states: dormant, active, disabled

4. The Administrator has the capability of forcefully:

- switching the ASG services to an active state
- switching listening interfaces to any interface even non SSL
VPN

ASG Services : High Level Details (cont.)

ASG Service Details

1. The ASG services default listening port 2222 is configurable but this
will cause the ToolsA connect2 service to be disconnected

2. the AVG and SAL Gateway firewall rules only knows the 2222 port for
the ASG connections for now

3. If the default port is changed, the Inventory xml file from IP Office
which contains the ASG port will have to be updated then uploaded to
the GRT gateway

4. By default the ASG services add additional users that can access the
system only through the connection port 2222 (by default)

5. To permanently disable the service, the user can opt for disabled state
in WebControl

Running Diagnostic : Low Level Requirements

ASG Service Details

1. The most secure connection requires the highest level user (super user)

2. The link security is done in three ways:

- only SSH links are used
- challenge/response
mechanism is used
- a second encryption is
provided by SSL VPN
interface

3. A custom Instructor's Notes can be used to configure SSHD, a specialized

service, to implement ASG services.

TCP Enhancements Feature Overview

IP Office™ Platform 9.1 introduces two TCP enhancements:

– Internal feature designed to enhance the proprietary TCP stack
implementation of IP500v2
– Enhanced TCP stream tool added in (SysMonitor) IP Office System
Monitor

TCP Stack
Enhancements

TCP Stack Enhancement- Use Case
Customers could not remotely connect to Web Manager over slow
connections due to the amount of TCP packets being retransmitted
unnecessarily.

TCP Stack Enhancements Feature Objective

TCP Stack
The main objectives are to improve performance and Enhancements
retransmission handling of lost or delayed TCP
packets

The improvements in the TCP stack implementation

have been driven by the specifications described in
IETF recommendation RFC5681 "TCP Congestion
Control“.

* Over fast interfaces this feature makes no difference. There is no TCP packet loss.

Deployment and Management Tools
An enhanced TCP stream tool has been
added in SysMonitor (Status menu-
>TCP Stream Data).

* This is an internal tool used by Avaya Support.

Kbps slow link with a 2 MB file transfer .
File Manager - 2 MB file transfer

Prior to R9.0 release, the download speed was half that of the upload speed.
