CHAPTER III

In order to help students’ knowledge in English Composition 1 class, the research team
determines to conform "BLENDED LEARNING ACTIVITIES TO IMPROVE
ENGLISH COMPOSITION I STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC SENTENCES’ WRITING
SKILLS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF EL SALVADOR WESTERN
MULTIDISCIPLINARY CAMPUS SEMESTER II-2019" as a case of study. For this
reason, to do this investigation; the researchers will use a methodology to help and describe
pedagogical tools focused on students from the subject of English Composition I class.

3.1 Type of study


To carry this study out, a combination of qualitative and quantitative mixed method
approach will be used by the investigation team to understand many factors that English
composition 1 class students’ have and the benefits that students would have studying this
course using blended activities. However, the whole gathered information will be collected
by the researchers using different instruments of investigation that would help consequently
the students, teachers and tutors as well. Likewise, it is necessary to emphasize the qualitative
point of observation; it will be considered by the investigators more important in order to
analyze the opportunities and challenges that students have and face constantly creating
sentences, paragraphs or essays. On the way, the investigators will implement different tools
in order to get information as results of qualitative variables.

It is necessary to remark that these tools will check out the students' academic level
about the well-known of English composition and English grammar knowledge in the current
subject. By the way, the researchers will use an evaluative design to analyze and to intervene
found problems where students require more attention, and also more practice. Finally, talking
about the quantitative approach, researchers will study and apply different tools that students
would have in order to understand at least the necessary elements of English composition, and
how to use different grammar rules while writing sentences, paragraphs or essays in English
Composition 1 subject.
3.2 Description of the environment
This research project will take place in the University of El Salvador, Western
Multidisciplinary Campus at the Santa Ana department from El Salvador country. It will be
executed with students from English Composition 1 class corresponding to Semester 2, 2019
of the major Licenciatura en Idioma Ingles, Opción Enseñanza.

3.3 Units of Observation


The participants in this investigation project will be Lic Darlene Mata acting as a
teacher of forty-two assigned students in English Composition 1 class. This class belongs to
the major of Licenciatura en Idioma Ingles Opción Enseñanza which is a career that the
Western Multidisciplinary Campus from the University of El Salvador.
