Introduction

For years, the world has faced countless issues regarding electricity and the

environment. The demand for electrical power has doubled throughout the years as a

result of rapid increase of population. As a result, the field of science and technology has

been focusing in finding alternative source of energy as its top priority. Most of the world’s

power generated are using electromagnets, which is based on Faraday’s law of electro-

magnetic induction. This makes free electricity generation a center of interest by many.

Energy cannot be created and the concept of free electricity is a misconception.

Nevertheless, you can generate power from readily available sources such as wind, sun,

hydro-electric and geothermal which makes it “free” after spending for the initial cost.

For some period of time the concept that electricity can be generated through the

use of magnets has been around. These magnets are placed inside the core of generators

and motors. Their magnetic fields that move electrons are used to produce electrical

power.

With the use of magnets and an old speaker and an electrical motor a generator

can be created, following the concept behind electromagnetism.

Background of The Study

Electrical generators come in many different forms. Hydro-electric generators are

used in areas abundant with running water. Generators powered by wind are used in

areas where strong wind blows most of the time.

With the use of fuels, diesel or gasoline, portable generators were made possible.

This became popular and useful throughout the globe especially in rural areas where the

supply of electricity could not reach or are less abundant. This has proven to have many

advantages, however, one major concern regarding portable generators that uses fuel is

its impact to the environment and the ongoing price increase. So, researchers have been

studying for better alternatives.

One concept that has been proven to generate electricity, that could be used for

portable generators, is electromagnetism.

Electromagnetism work through the use of electro magnets. According to “How

magnet works?” (2016), an online science publication states that in the 19th Century,

Hans Christian Ørsted noticed that a compass nearby was affected by a wire with a

current running through it. That current created a magnetic field. The research showed

that electric current and magnetism are actually two aspects of the same force. This force

works both ways – a moving magnetic field creates electric current.

Electromagnets are used in many appliances and devices. Speakers and electric

motors are example of devices that have electromagnets powering it with electricity to

produce sounds and to make the motors work. However, this action can be reverse –

energy of motion to electrical energy. This is how generators work (Meier, 2006).

A publication by David, A.P.J. (2017) shows a study conducted to create an electric

generator through the use of electro-magnetic induction associated by wind. This is to

convert kinetic energy to electricity. This generator would then be potentially used for

solving problems regarding electricity.

In Zamboanga del Norte only 70% of the power generated that are used by the

locals comes from Maria Christina Falls. This power generated are to be consumed by

about more than 300,000 families, about 861,799 individuals, on a daily basis. Dipolog

City, one of Zamboanga del Norte’s primary cities has been experiencing problems where

the power supply does not meet the power demand. As a result, the locality often

encounters power outage, that oftentimes last an entire day. On some occasions there

are voltage fluctuations that occur which could cause damage to the appliances and

devices in homes and establishments.

This study aims to devise and create a self- sustaining generator with the use of

electromagnetism through magnets, old speaker and an electrical motor. The magnets

will serve as an outside force that would run the old speaker and electric motor to generate

usable electricity. The electricity will then be used to charge small devices and power

lights.

Statement of The Problem

The study will focus in creating a self-sustaining portable generator through

electromagnetism from magnets, old speakers, and electric motor. Specifically, it aims to

answer the following questions:

1. Will the power generated be sufficient for larger electronic devices?

2. How does the size of the magnet affect the output of the electricity?

3. Is there a factor that can affect the process of producing electric energy through

the use of the portable generator?

Theoretical Framework

This study was anchored on the concept and theory of electromagnetism as it is

used as a source and tool to power the portable generator.

According to James Clerk Maxwell’s (1965) magnetism classical theory stated that

magnetic fields are clouds of energy around magnetic particles that pull in or push away

other magnetic objects.

Maxwell’s breakthrough was to change the way we thought of electromagnetic

forces. His idea was that each charge must reach out to each other with some kind of

energy. That is, a charge is surrounded by a field of electricity, a field that other charges

can detect. Charges possess electric fields, and charges interact with the electric fields

of other charges. The same must be true of magnets. Magnets possess magnetic fields,

and interact with other magnetic fields. Maxwell’s model was not just a description of the

force between charges and magnets, but also description of the electric and magnetic

fields themselves. With that change of view, Maxwell found the connection between

electricity and magnetism. They were connected by their fields.

A moving electric field creates a magnetic field, and a moving magnetic field

creates an electric field. Not only are the two connected, but one type of field can create

the other. Maxwell had created a single, unified description of electricity and magnetism.

He had united two different forces into a single unified force, which we now call

electromagnetism.

The main focus of this study is to create a self-sustaining portable generator

through electromagnetism. The conceptual paradigm shows the process on how the

device will work in generating electricity. The magnets will act as a driver that will cause

the electric motor to run, also causing the speaker to vibrate. The running electric motor

and speaker will then convert this to electricity through electromagnetism cause by the

electro magnets present inside the electric motor and speaker. From this, the electricity s
