MOVE-IN & ORIENTATION CHECK-IN – Saturday, September 22nd

Students and family members are invited to Campus North
enjoy lunch at their assigned dining commons. Bartlett Dining Commons:
Students will access the dining commons with Max Palevsky, Snell-

Following the BBQ, new students and

for House meetings. Students should look for

9:30 PM Orientation Glow Party Henry Crown Field House,
Join us for the first ever GLOW PARTY! This 5550 South University
night will feature food and beverages from Avenue, and Campus North
Paramount Catering and La Azteca Paletria. Residential Commons,
Attractions include silent disco, roller skating, Courtyard, 5500 South
laser tag, and much more! This first-year University Avenue
exclusive event was created just for you, so grab
your friends and join us.
OPENING DAY & FAMILY ORIENTATION – Sunday, September 23rd
8:00 – 10:00 AM Campus Life Meeting: Engaging with the Consult Appointment Card
City for Location
This session will provide you with helpful tips
on how to navigate the city and ways to take
full advantage of the amazing resources it has
to offer to you as a UChicago student and
Chicago resident. This session will also provide
suggestions and advice from students, staff,
and community leaders on how to integrate
service and civic engagement into your
academic lives to make a positive impact over
the next four years and beyond.
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM Campus Life Meeting: Hearing One Another Consult Appointment Card
The Hearing One Another workshop uses for Location
interactive activities to introduce you to the
skilled practice of communicating across
difference and understanding one another. The
workshop focuses on recognizing the richness of
each University community member’s identity
and experiences and on developing listening
and conversation habits that can promote
interactions that are more meaningful and a
stronger sense of belonging.

for the College's formal welcome—the Opening

Join faculty and administrators as you process Quad, Bartlett Quad, Stagg
out of Rockefeller Chapel to Hull Gate where Field (Soccer)
members of the UChicago community will
welcome you. Parents and families will line the
procession route to cheer on you and your new
classmates. You will then proceed to the Class
of 2022 Photo and your parents and families
will join the administrators and staff at the
Family Reception in Hutchinson Courtyard.
5:00 – 8:00 PM Dinner in Dining Commons
8:30 – 11:30 PM Logan Center Party Logan Center for the Arts,
Come party at the Logan Center, UChicago’s 915 East 60th Street
interdisciplinary arts building. While enjoying
this premier site's innovative design, explore the
gallery and rehearsal spaces, observe student
performances out on the terrace, and help
yourself to refreshments and free swag. As you
meet new friends, make sure to grab a bite at
one of the Chicago-based food trucks and pose
for pictures at our photo booth!
Monday, September 24th
9:00 – 11:00 AM Required Academic Advising Group Consult Appointment Card
Meeting for Location
Meet your academic adviser and learn about the
advising system, the role of the academic
adviser, student responsibilities, expectations
during your first year, and general advice for
college. Attendance at this session is
mandatory.
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM Introduction to the College Center for Consult Appointment Card
Research and Fellowships for Location
This session introduces students to the College
Center for Research and Fellowships (CCRF),
which provides information and high-impact
support for undergraduate research and
nationally competitive scholarships, fellowships,
and postgraduate opportunities and offers
individual, targeted advising around these
opportunities. To join the CCRF Listserv and
schedule an appointment with the CCRF team,
visit ccrf.uchicago.edu.
12:30 – 2:00 PM Lunch in Dining Commons
12:30 – 1:45 PM Transfer Student Lunch Ida Noyes Hall, Library,
A working lunch for transfer students and 1212 East 59th Street
representatives of College Advising to discuss
the results of Pre-Registration, prepare for one-
on-one meetings with College Advisers, and
review College policies specific to transfer
students. Lunch is provided. Attendance at this
session is mandatory.
2:30 – 3:45 PM Campus Life Meeting: UMatter Reynolds Club, Mandel Hall,
& The University is committed to an environment 5706 South University
4:15 – 5:30 PM free from sexual harassment, sexual Avenue
misconduct, sexual assault, domestic violence,
dating violence, and stalking. These issues may
violate the law, do violate the standards of our
community, and are unacceptable at the
University of Chicago. Through this interactive
presentation, you will learn about University
policy and resources designed to assist you in
addressing issues of gender-based misconduct.

ensure you attend the correct session time.
6:00 PM House Activities Night Times and Locations
This night is set aside for outings with your Announced at House Meeting
House. You will have a fantastic time bonding on Saturday night
with the residents of your House while getting
out of your Residence Hall and into the greater
Chicago area! Activities range from trips to the
Second City comedy club to dinners all across
Chicago. Resident Heads will announce details
of your House activity during your House
Meeting on Saturday, September 22nd. Many
Houses have a traditional activity that is part of
the identity and culture of the House
community. Enjoy!

11:30 AM – 1:00 PM The Universe of Languages Introduction & Reynolds Club, Mandel Hall
Fair and Hutch Courtyard, 5706
Welcome to the Universe of Languages! We South University Avenue
teach 60 languages every year—join us for
refreshments and meet language instructors
from departments across campus. At this event,
you can travel the University's language
universe and hear expert advice about language
study, language placement, and language
requirements.

1:00 – 3:00 PM Academic Opportunities Fair Regenstein Library, 1st Floor,
This event provides you with the opportunity to 1100 East 57th Street
learn more about the campus resources and
experiential opportunities that support your
academic and co-curricular efforts. This includes
undergraduate research, writing support,
international engagement, national fellowships,
and so forth. While many of these experiences
may appeal to students further along in their
undergraduate experience, it is never too early
to learn about the exciting co-curricular
experiences available at UChicago.

Meet your First-Year Career Adviser and learn for Location
about all the different ways you can explore
your career interests during your first year at
UChicago. Join us to learn about the many
different opportunities, programs, and resources
available to you, along with a resume workshop
to help you transition your high school resume to
a college resume.

This night has been set aside for activities that Announced at House Meeting
allow you to connect to other students in your on Saturday night
Residence Hall and is hosted by the Resident
Deans. This is your introduction to the
recreational, cultural, and educational programs
your Resident Deans will offer in the upcoming

5:00 – 6:00 PM Campus Life Meeting: Free Expression Ratner Athletics Center,
This session will examine and discuss one of the 5530 South Ellis Avenue
University’s fundamental values: Freedom of
Expression. Framed by the principles outlined in
the 2014 Report of the Committee on Freedom of
Expression (the “Stone Report”), you will learn
how the University community defines and
promotes this value both in and out of the
classroom.
6:00 – 8:00 PM Dinner in Dining Commons
8:30 – 9:30 PM Dear World Culminating Event Ratner Athletics Center,
Each of you has experienced something unique 5530 South Ellis Avenue
and powerful through your participation in Dear
World thus far. This culminating event, through
the stories of your fellow classmates, allows you
to realize that there's actually much more that
brings you together than what keeps you apart.
9:30 – 11:30 PM New Student Ice Cream Social Outside of Ratner Athletics
Join your classmates after Dear World for an ice Center,
cream social outside of Ratner. Ice Cream On 5530 South Ellis Avenue
Wheels will be on site along with UChicago
alums Jessica and Erik who are providing their
Frönen natural ice cream bars. Other local
dessert options will also be available!
Thursday, September 27th

This international student orientation will
familiarize students in F-1 and J-1 status with
legal rights and responsibilities, including
maintaining valid immigration status,
employment authorization, and travel issues.
Breakfast will be served.

Note: Attendance is mandatory for all


international undergraduate students in F-1
and J-1 status new to the University. Please
arrive at the Cloister Club promptly by 9:00 AM.
11:30 AM – 2:30 PM The Blueprint: Your Introduction to Reynolds Club, Hutchinson

The Aims of Education Address is a celebrated South Woodlawn Avenue
tradition where a faculty member addresses the
entering class on the unique aims of liberal arts
education at the University. John W. Boyer,
Dean of the College will introduce Gabriel
Richardson Lear, Professor of Philosophy and
the Committee on Social Thought.
7:45 – 8:45 PM Aims of Education Address Colloquia in the House Lounges
Houses
Faculty members join students for a discussion
following the Aims of Education Address. This
colloquium in your House is your first
opportunity to participate in the kind of
discourse that will be an integral part of your
collegiate experience.
9:00 PM – 1:00 AM (Double Feature) Movie Night on the Quad Bartlett Quad, 57th Street
Join the Center for Leadership and between Bartlett Dining
Involvement and the College for a Double Commons and the Regenstein
Feature Movie Night on the Quad. The movies Library, 1100 East 57th
have been selected by the members of the Street

Friday, September 28th

Does your dorm room need a little something Club, 5706 South University
extra? Forget your toothbrush at home? Well, Avenue
grab a friend and get on the bus to Target!
Buses depart from the Reynolds Club every half
hour and take you directly to Target, with the
last bus leaving from the Reynolds Club at
11:00 AM. Return buses from Target will begin
at 10:30 AM, with the last bus departing Target
at 12:00 PM. Limited seating available.

8:30 PM – 12:00 AM Reynolds Club Party Reynolds Club, 5706 South
Join the Center for Leadership and Involvement University Avenue
and the College for a sampling from Chicago's
favorite food trucks, Garrett’s popcorn, and
UChicago shakes. This year’s Reynolds Club
Party will begin with an exciting performance in
Mandel Hall with Off-Off Campus headlining!
The party will continue with an arcade room
featuring over 20 games, the opportunity to
listen to today’s hits with a live DJ, giveaways,
and much, much more!
Saturday, September 29th
7:00 – 11:00 PM The College and ArtsPass Present: College Museum of Science and
Night at the Museum of Science and Industry Industry, 5700 South Lake
Faculty, staff, and returning students welcome Shore Drive
the Class of 2022 and entering transfer
students. Students are invited to explore the MSI
and its exhibits, including watching an
Omnimax documentary (screening times: 8:00,
9:00, and 10:00 PM). Also, enjoy hors d'oeuvres,
desserts, and beverages in the Rotunda.
Regular campus bus service will be available in
addition to special shuttles to take students to
the MSI from Residence Halls. Check the front
desk of your Residence Hall for bus schedules.
Wednesday, October 3rd
4:30 – 6:30 PM College Kickoff Welcome Event Harper Quadrangle, Behind
Join Deans Boyer and Ellison and other Harper Memorial Library,
members of the College administration for a 1116 East 59th Street
cookout, music, and games to celebrate the
beginning of another great academic year. All
students, faculty, and staff are invited to join
the festivities. Free, class-specific giveaways
will be handed out to the first 300 students in
each class, so be sure to arrive early. Please
bring your UCID and check in at the registration
table.
Friday, October 5th
3:00 – 5:30 PM Student Activities and Resource Fair Main Quad, East 58th
The Student Activities and Resource Fair is your Street and Greenwood
one stop shop to getting the most out of your Avenue
UChicago experience! Stop by the fair to learn Rain Location: Henry
about involvement opportunities, on-campus Crown Field House, 5550
resources, job opportunities, community South University Avenue
partners and more. Come out to celebrate all the
amazing ways to get involved in the UChicago
community, show off your Maroon spirit, and
enjoy free food and entertainment!
