NON-FICTION or nonfiction is content whose creator, in good faith, assumes responsibility for the truth or

accuracy of the events, people, or information presented. In contrast, a story whose creator explicitly leaves
open if and how the work refers to reality is usually classified as fiction.

An ESSAY is a piece of writing that gives the author's own argument — but the definition is vague, overlapping
with those of a paper, an article, a pamphlet, and a short story. Essays have traditionally been sub-classified
as formal and informal.

INFORMATIONAL TEXT is nonfiction writing, written with the intention of informing the reader about a specific
topic. They are written using special text features that allow the reader to easily find key information and
understand the main topic.

LITERARY NONFICTION is a type of prose that employs the literary techniques usually associated with fiction
or poetry to report on persons, places, and events in the real world.

FICTION broadly refers to any narrative that is derived from the imagination—in other words, not based strictly
on history or fact. It can also refer, more narrowly, to narratives written only in prose, and is often used as a
synonym for the novel.

FANTASY is a genre of speculative fiction set in a fictional universe, often without any locations, events, or
people referencing the real world. Its roots are in oral traditions, which then became literature and drama.

HUMOUR, also spelt as humor, is the tendency of experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement.
The term derives from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which taught that the balance of fluids in
the human body, known as humours, controlled human health and emotion.

SCIENCE FICTION is a genre of speculative fiction, typically dealing with imaginative concepts such as
advanced science and technology, space exploration, time travel, and extraterrestrial life.

HISTORICAL FICTION is a literary genre in which the plot takes place in a setting located in the past.
Although the term is commonly used as a synonym for the historical novel, it can also be applied to other types
of narrative, including theatre, opera, cinema and television, as well as video games and graphic novels.

MYSTERY FICTION is a genre of fiction usually involving a mysterious death or a crime to be solved. Often
with a closed circle of suspects, each suspect is usually provided with a credible motive and a reasonable
opportunity for committing the crime.

A SHORT STORY is a piece of prose fiction that typically can be read in one sitting and focuses on a self-
contained incident or series of linked incidents, with the intent of evoking a "single effect" or mood, however
there are many exceptions to this.

A HORROR FILM is a film that seeks to elicit fear. Initially inspired by literature from authors like Edgar Allan
Poe, Bram Stoker, and Mary Shelley, horror has existed as a film genre for more than a century. The macabre
and the supernatural are frequent themes.

REALISTIC FICTION is a genre consisting of stories that could have actually occurred to people or animals in
a believable setting. These stories resemble real life, and fictional characters within these stories react
similarly to real people.

TRADITIONAL FICTION is the stories that are passed down from person to person are grouped together in
the traditional fiction genre. These stories are also called folklore and include fairy tales, folktales, myths, and
legends.
