Skills Test

Skill Tested
Clear: Poole Clear Test
The object of the test is for the subject to work on clearing the birdie as high and deep
into the opponent’s court as possible. The court opposite the net of the subject will have areas
taped off with different point values. The closer to the rear service line the more the points are
worth. Also there will be another student across the net about ten feet away from the net with a
racket extended in the air. The subject will have to clear the birdie over the racket of the other
student and where ever the birdie lands is how many points the subject will be awarded. The
student extending the racket will first hit a high, controllable serve for the subject and then get
into position with the racket extended. The subject will get points for clearing the birdie over the
net and the partners extended racket, and they will receive the point value for which the birdie
lands on.

Serve: French Long and Short Serve Test

The subject will stand in the correct service box and be evaluated on their short and long
serves over the net. The opposite, diagonal service box will have a point system with areas taped
off on the floor with different point values. On the short serve test the closer areas to the short
service line will be worth more points while the further areas taped off will be worth more points
during the long serve test. The subject must keep in mind to always contact the birdie below the
waist and where ever the birdie lands is how many points they will receive. They will get three
long serve, three short serves, and they will then switch service sides and get another 3 short and
long serves.

Smash: French-Stalter Badminton Test

There will be areas marked off with tape that have different point values. The areas
marked closest to the net will be worth more since the object of the smash is to have a forceful
downward shot. A partner will hit a high clear shot to the subject in the front three fourths of the
court and the subject will practice the smash. The shot must go over the net and where ever it
lands is how many points the subject will receive. The subject will get a total of 10 smash
attempts and they will add all the points awarded.

Drive: French-Stalter Badminton Test

There will be areas marked off with tape that have different point values. The areas
marked closest to the back service line will be worth more since the object of the drive is to hit a
line drive shot deep into the opponent’s court. A partner will hit a high clear shot to the subject in
the front three fourths of the court and the subject will practice the drive shot. The shot must go
over the net and where ever it lands is how many points the subject will receive. The subject will
get a total of 10 drive attempts and they will add all the points awarded.

Drop: French-Stalter Badminton Test

Areas will be marked off with tape that will have different point values. The areas closer
to the net will be worth more points since the object of a drop is for the birdie to drop
immediately after the net and force the opponent forward and hit the birdie up. A partner will hit
a high clear shot to the subject who will then practice the drop shot by hitting the birdie softly
over the net. The subject will have a total of ten drop attempts and they will add all the points
they are awarded.
