Grading
Since this class covers topics relative to you now and your future, participation, activities and discussions
are crucial.
Academic grading will follow the design of Proficiency-Based Grading. This will allow students to rework
proficiency for a standard at their own pace, all work to progress to proficiency will be accepted through
the semester, however late work can be reflected in a students citizenship. Students will be given 3 to 4
options for showing standard proficiency. This will enable students to display knowledge in the way they
learn and provide the opportunity for all diverse learners to reach the ultimate goal of Proficiency.
Homework will be given as practice only and No extra credit will be accepted or needed in the Proficiency
Based Grading system. A rubric will be provided at the start of each Unit, this will allow students to know
what they need to do, to achieve the grade they are working towards. Below is the districts PBG scale
that will be followed:
4- Highly Proficiencent - I exceed expectations and can apply the standard in complex ways.
3- Proficient - I meet the expectations described in the standard and can do them independently.
2- Approaching Proficiency- I am getting close to meeting expectations and can do the simpler parts of
the standard independently.
1- Below Proficiency- I still need help and support from my teacher to do the simpler parts of the
standard.

Citizenship
A students citizenship should always follow The Matheson Way. Citizenship will not only reflect
attendance and punctuality, which will follow school policy, it will also be determined by behavior, effort
and participation. As long as you Remember this years school motto: Learning Today… the Matheson
Way you should be able to work and navigate your way to a solid A and 4. I know for many of you this
will be new and sometimes change can be a challenge and create some anxiety. Just CHILL , everything
will be good. If you ever have a question, don’t understand something or are just feeling concerned about
anything, come talk to me, this includes parents as well.
