(GRDNTOWR) S/S
1) INTRODUCTION
Purpose of this method statement is to ensure the correct sequential procedure
for erection and dismantling of the tower crane and that all tower crane
operations and related activities are executed safely and to prevent any
accidents and /or injuries to people and damage to property.
2) SCOPE
This procedure is applicable to the tower crane to be installed on site for the project
titled,132/11KV Garden Tower (GRDNTOWR) S/S
The tower crane will be used to lifting formwork, reinforcement steel, construction
materials, concrete bucket and any other load(with in the safe load limits)during the
construction operations.

6) PROCEDURE
EQUIPMENT
All the above mentioned limit switches are subject to final adjustment only after the
erection of the tower crane on site.
Third party inspection body shall confirm the good operation of the above limit
switches after erection.
RISK ASSESSMENT
CONTRACTOR understands that tower crane operations are inherently hazardous and shall
ensure the following:-
No movement of load over working persons
Experienced and trained / certified operators
Experienced and trained riggers
Experienced and trained PMV technicians
Erection of specially trained erectors / specialist agencies
Certification of crane after erection and thereafter inspection / certification every
six months
Certification of lifting tackles
Certification of buckets
Aircraft warning lights on top of crane and end of boom
Audible alarm and emergency switch for electrical systems
Employer: Contractor:
132/11KV GARDEN TOWER
(GRDNTOWR) S/S
Limit switches for vertical load movements, horizontal trolley movements and
moment limit switches to prevent overloading at any given radii.
Identification of load radii and max capacity of crane therein
Identification of counter weights in tons
Identification of crane
Sufficient rest periods and replacement as may be required.
The tower crane is usually connected by pins, shafts and bolts. During erection, it
requires auxiliary truck crane. The hoist characteristics of which must be
correspond to the requirements for hosting the tower crane parts
Checking wither parts of tower crane are complete in accordance with the
delivery list. Make a plan of good coordination between the erection and
assembling sequences, the erectors, appropriate roads and assembling site to
reduce the using time of the auxiliary truck crane on the site with maximum limit.
Tower crane sections and component parts have been used before and inspected
on other projects. However fitness for use checks is made before by
CONTRACTOR and specialized third party certification body, after which the tower
crane sections and components are sent to site
Erection of the tower cranes are executed in sequence (as under) as per the
manufacturers recommendation; full copy of manufacturers recommendation is
available with the CONTRACTOR (Attached).
The Cranes will be erected to the total height required at one go. The location of
the cranes has been determined to ensure a full span of lifting across the Building
A, B, C
The Tower Cranes will be erected on foundation blocks placed on a concrete mat of 6M
x 6M x 0.7M, for concrete foundation.
The Base Plate: The base plate will be fitted on top of the concrete slab
(foundation) and will be a fixed part (unified) with the subject base plate.
The base plate has 4 bolts M24, strength 8.8- DIN 933
Employer: Contractor:
132/11KV GARDEN TOWER
(GRDNTOWR) S/S
The Shoe Plate: The shoe plate is the connection between the Base Plate
and the undercarriage support. It is bolted to the Base Plate by means of
the 7 bolts of the base plates and it is bolted to the under carriage support
by means of 4 bolts M27, strength 8.8- DIN 933
Using the Load Radius Indicator, radii and the maximum load at that point will be
indicated on the boom. The Tower Crane Operator and the rigger/ foremen will be
made aware of the Safe Working Load at the various radii of the boom
On completion of tower crane erection and their commissioning; the tower crane will
be certified fit for use by third party inspection agency. Thereafter, certification will be
done every one year or six months including for all lifting gear and accessories
One Dry Powder Fire extinguisher 3-5kgs will be available in the operator cabin to
help in case of fire
Aircraft warning lights will be placed on tower head and end of boom
Audible Alarm and Emergency Switch for shutting out electricity will be in place
Operating Instructions
Examination before starting operation
Motor Outputs, Lifting Capacities and Speeds

Crane Accident Prevention Regulations
Night Operations: Any night work will be properly coordinated with ABB
authorities. Necessary permits will be in place. Tower crane are fitted with
automatic warning lights and operations will be controlled to ensure minimum
obstruction of flight envelope
Over and above the above checks, the tower crane operator will also check and
cross check the various systems, working of limit switches, visual inspection of
tower crane sections as he ascends into his cabin. He shall report any
malfunctioning / defect immediately to the foreman or PMV supervisor. It is
estimated that such notices will be acted upon within a maximum of 2 days
Fall Protection Measures: (i.e. Guard Rails/Toe Boards/Brick Guard/Safety Harnesses/Exclusion Zones,
(Where work at height cannot etc.) eliminated consider both Personnel & Materials)
be avoided)
Electrical Safety Measures i.e. PTW Requirements, Isolation arrangements, Specific equipment (Voltage
Detector)
Lifting Safety Measures i.e. Lifting plan, loading area, pre-lift survey, competent operator and,
supervision,certified equipment’s required for operations.
Others (please provide details) For example; summer break, confined space, remote locations, weather
conditions and lone working etc.
