Course Description

The course is designed to deepen critical understanding of the project


management tools, strategies, processes, techniques, issues, models and methods to
lead, carry out, document and evaluate project. This course builds knowledge and skills
in the planning and management of development projects and programmes.
Knowledge, competencies and skills in program/project conceptualization and
development, preparation of viable and feasible proposals, including the establishment
of system, processes and procedures. A such should include all necessary components
such as a project description, specification of target group, possible financiers, time
plan, and budget.

Course Objectives

1. To develop an advanced and in depth understanding of the principles and practice of


project planning and design, within the overall context of an appreciation of the nature
and purpose of development projects.
2. To provide you with an advanced understanding of the theory and practice
of project implementation and management skills.
3. To develop an advanced understanding of the principles and practice of project
appraisal within the overall context of an appreciation of the nature and purpose of
development projects; and of applying these techniques in different contexts.
4. The discipline of project and programme management, within an overall appreciation
of the nature and purpose of projects.
5. The principles and practice of project planning, design, preparation, and appraisal
techniques for projects in a development context.
6. The theory and practice of management skills for project and programme
management, focusing particularly on 'hard' and 'soft' skills for successful project
implementation.
