adjectives.

Instructor: ¿Y cómo se dice “it’s not my dog.”?
René: No es mi perro.
Instructor: And if referring to one cat, how do you say “it’s not mine”?
María: No es mío.
René: El abrigo.
María: Es mío.

Instructor: ¿Cómo se pregunta “are they your coats?”?
María: No es mío.
María: Es su carro.
María: Es suyo.

Instructor: She just said “it’s his.” Listen and repeat the word for “his”
Instructor: Instructor: Note that “suyo” can mean “his,” “hers,” or “its.” “Suyo” can
even mean “yours” when speaking politely. “Suyo” can also mean “theirs.” If speaking to
more than one person, “suyo” can also mean “yours.”
Instructor: Did you notice that “suyo” becomes “suyos” when referring to a plural
noun?
René: Es suyo.
Instructor: Now imagine that you are speaking to a group of people. ¿Cómo se pregunta
“are they your cars”?

René: ¿Son sus carros? ¿Son sus carros?
María: No, no son nuestros carros. Nuestros. No, no son nuestros carros.
Instructor: Pointing to another group of people, tell him “They are their cars.”
Instructor: She just said “they are not ours.” Listen and repeat.
María: No, son nuestros. Nuestros. Son nuestros. No, son nuestros.
María: La mesa.
Instructor: Keep in mind that Spanish possessive pronouns agree with the object
owned in number and gender. Referring to a table, try to say “It’s mine.”

María: Es mía. Mía. Es mía.
Instructor: And if you are referring to a “gato,” how do you say: “It’s mine.”
Instructor: Since Spanish possessive pronouns must agree with the object owned both
in gender and number, referring to more than one “mesa” try to say “they are mine.”
Instructor: And if you are referring to several “perros,” how do you say: “They are
mine”?
Instructor: On second thought, you decide they are not yours. Now say “they are not
mine.”

Instructor: ¿Cómo se dice “the hat”?
María: El sombrero.
Instructor: Say: “No, it’s not my hat and it’s not my coat”
Instructor: Referring to “un sombrero y un abrigo,” try to ask “are they yours?”

Instructor: Again referring to “un sombrero y un abrigo” ask “are they yours?”
René: Funda.
Instructor: Did you remember that “tuyo” must become “tuya” when talking about a
feminine noun such as “la funda ”?
Instructor: Did you remember that “tuya” must become “tuyas” when talking about a
plural noun such as “las sábanas”?

Instructor: Again, referring to sheets, ask “are they yours?”
Instructor: She just said the “the sheets are mine but the pillow case is not mine.”
Instructor: Now say it all at once “the cat is mine but the dog is not mine”
María: El gato es mío pero el perro no es mío. El gato es mío pero el perro no es mío.

Instructor: Did you remember that “it’s his” is said the same way as “it’s hers”?
Instructor: Talking about the same “perro,” how do you say “it’s “their dog”?
María: Es su perro.
Instructor: Did you remember that “it’s theirs” is said the same way as “it’s hers” and
“it’s his”?

René: ¿Es tuya? ¿Es tuya?
René: ¿De quién es la silla? ¿De quién es? ¿De quién es la silla?
Instructor: On second thought, you think that the chair belongs to Carmen and Juan. Try
to say “it’s theirs.”
Instructor: Did you remember that “suyo” must become “suya” when talking about a
feminine noun such as “la silla”?
René: Entonces, ¿de quién son las sillas? Entonces, ¿de quién son las sillas?

theirs”?
Instructor: Did you remember that “suya” must become “suyas” when talking about a
plural noun such as “las sillas”?

Instructor: Now imagine a conversation taking place between a group of people. ¿Cómo
se pregunta “are they your cups?”?

about a feminine noun such as “las tazas”?
Instructor: Referring to only one cup or “una taza,” ask the group “is it yours?”
Instructor: Now you see your friend María, ask María “is it yours?”
María: Es mi taza.
