PROJECTS - Projects will be assessed based on evidence of research and investigation (20%), practice,
experimentation and revision (30%), materials, processes and ideas (30%), and quality of skills (20%) through
images of research, sketches, plans, etc. as well as final completed work. Students will be expected to work on
projects both inside and outside of class time.
SKETCHBOOKS - Before, during and after the creation process students will use their sketchbook to document
with images and words, practices, experimentation, revisions, processes, ideas, and skillful synthesis of materials,
processes and ideas. It will be used as a visual journal to work through ideas, to practice drawing and design skills
and to develop, brainstorm and record ideas. The sketchbook should accompany the student to every class. It is
the textbook for Studio Art. Art schools often want to see you working through an idea. The sketchbook is a great
place to achieve this. Fifty percent of your project grade will come from this process (evidence of research and
investigation (20%) and practice, experimentation and revision (30%)).
CRITIQUES - Students will be expected to participate in critiques throughout the year by contributing thoughtful
feedback and discussing the art making process. Students will interact through critiques of their work as well as
the work of other students. It is important to establish and maintain a positive atmosphere that provides
constructive criticism as a strong motivator. Peer critiques will take place once a week to help provide direction
to each other. The student whose work is being critiqued should take notes and offer explanations as
appropriate. Group critiques will be conducted three times per quarter in order to provide feedback early enough
to make modifications as needed. Analysis should include composition, technique and concept. Discussions
should include appropriate art vocabulary as well as elements of art and principles of design. These will be
evaluated on participation and thoughtfulness. Mrs. B will also critique various aspects of your work throughout
the art making process on an individual level. These will happen on a daily basis or as needed as a work is
progressing. Emphasis will be placed on discovering strengths or areas that need additional consideration.
STUDENT TRACKER - At the end of each quarter students are required to turn in their tracking sheet from the
quarter. You will be required to write about each project completed during the quarter as well as take photos of
the final art. It is strongly suggested that you work on this throughout your art making process.
SOLO ART SHOW - Each student will be responsible for creating and exhibiting their own show that will be on
display for approximately one week in the front of the building. This will be worth 100 points. An art critique will
take place for each solo show in which everyone will participate.
ARTASTIC FEST - As a studio art student, you will be required to participate in ARTastic Fest
in May for a grade. Students will be required to display their work as well as participate in set
up and tear down of it. They will need to be present at the show the entire time to answer
questions about their work as well as help with the face painting stations and any other areas
that may need an extra hand. This is not optional!
SHOWS, CONTESTS AND EXHIBITS - Students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work
through the school, the community and by entering art competitions. Students will be required
to partake in some of these events and will be encouraged to participate in other opportunities.

ART may be needed.
FEE:
$15 Sketchbooks will be needed in
the classroom every day.
It is unethical to copy an image, even in a different
medium, that was made by someone else and
represent it as your own work. This includes
published photographs as well as other artwork.
These can certainly be used as a reference, but
must move beyond duplication. Work must be
significantly altered through the use of your own
voice and expression techniques. Plagiarized work
will not be accepted for credit.
