Brief Description (+ Area of interest)

There are so many NGOs for humans but so little for animals. Pain is

same whether one is a human or an animal.

Pets are like a family member to humankind. They give us lots of love without

any desire. Many pets are homeless, they need to be cared.

We are providing the safety to these stray animals (mainly the stray dogs).

Giving them treatment rescues and foster care and feeding them by connecting

them with the people and veterinary doctors. We are designing an app that will

cover problems and queries of every owner or let be any concerned person.

This app will provide solutions for queries like Emergencies, Breeding,

socializing for pets, Pet shops, reminders, health issues etc.

Hence, contributing in saving lives and curing opening the doors to the world of

paws.

Huang Ching Jung Protects Furry Kids

Furry Kids, as some people call their pets nowadays, have

become as important as family members in modern life. They are

often pampered by their owners, although some have become a

kind of social problem, abandoned and living on the streets. But

many people from NPOs such as the APA (Animal Protection

Association of the Republic of China, are trying to improve the

situation for homeless animals. These compassionate souls are

devoted to finding a nurturing environment for stray animals, and

are developing new more-refined ways of taking care of them.

▲For years, Huang has been reading up on animal care

and updating his knowledge as it applies to the

improvement of living conditions for stray animals.

(Photo: Huang Jianbin)

Turning Around the Future for Stray

APA Secretary General, Dr. Huang Chingjung, spent most of his

childhood around dogs, pigs and cows, and feels deeply for

animals. When he came to Taipei and opened his veterinary clinic,

he noticed the stray dog issue in the city and quickly became an

activist, promoting amendments to the animal protection laws. He

joined the APA in 1999 and says with deep feeling: “It’s natural for

me to speak up for animals, since I can’t bear to see them treated

the wrong way. That’s why I propose all sorts of policies in the

association, hoping that more furry kids will benefit from them.”

Huang also says, “Currently, our association is promoting the

projects ‘Sponsor and Foster’ ‘Lucky Bark’ and ‘Furry Food Bank.’”

Known to animal protection activists as the “idea hamster,” Dr.

Huang continues to devise ways of improving living conditions for

animals. In the “Sponsor and Foster” program, people can make a

monthly donation, which goes towards a particular animal’s care at

the shelter; but sponsors can also take their four-legged friends

home for a few days and spend some happy time with them. The

“Lucky Bark” project is designed to reduce the pressure on

shelters filled with pups. It works with kennels all over Taiwan to let

dogs have a bigger place to run around in. “Furry Food Bank” uses

its donations to buy better quality food for kennels, which, in turn,

allows kennels to spend their money on hiring staff. With sufficient

manpower in place, all the furry kids have a better chance of being

taken care of properly.

Huang believes that even though the stray dog and cat problem

has improved, he stills calls on animal lovers to get involved by

making small donations, volunteering at shelters and kennels, and

working with the association. Schools and groups are always

welcome to visit Bali Shelter and get closer to their furry friends!

“If everyone contributes a little, these furry kids will be treated

a lot better,” Huang says. Moving forward, the association is

determined to keep spirits positive, warm and bright, while it

continues its good work helping stray animals have better

lives. Let’s make the core virtue: “Respect for Life” a part of

our daily lives!

Adopt free Pets and Save Animals
Pets are like a family member to humankind. They give us lots of love

without any desire. Many pets are homeless, they want to be adopted.

You can adopt any pet of your choice and provide them a home and

your love. We share our mother earth with all animals and plants. Then,

why not include one of them in our family. This New Year why not save

an animal’s life and adopt a pet, it may be a dog, or a cat or a cow or

any animal of your choice. Dogs’ are men’s best friends and therefore

more preferred in adoption. There’re many breed of dogs including,

Siberian dogs, Military Dog, Boxer, German Shepherd etc.

Just keep in mind that you are actually providing the animal homes.

There’re many Reasons For Which You Should Adopt A Pet, they

include:
 You’re saving a life: Pet having shelter are once in a many.

According to a research, in 2.7 million, only one pet have home.

That’s the actual number of the dogs and other pets adopted who

are yet euthanized every year in US, easily due to the reason that

innumerable pet desire for shelters and only a small no. of people

adopt them.

 You’re getting an animal as a family member: Animal shelters &

also rescue clusters are over-flowing with happiness; healthful pets

are just waiting for the person who can give them shelter. Most of

the pets desiring for shelter ended up their hope, due to

humankind.

 You’re getting a reason to struggle with puppy mills: As you

know you can buy an animal from any pet store or from online

retailer or May also buy directly from the puppy mills. These are

the factory style breeding capability that attains benefit for the

good of animals. Almost every puppy sold online is purchased

before from the puppy mills. These will consistently function until or

unless people prevent assisting them. By adopting a pet, you’re

not giving them a bit.

 You’ve been grateful by your décor: Almost all pets you adopt

from shelter or rescue are by themselves trained from house,

which implies that you’re not merely rescuing the lives of the

animal but also saving your carpet and other interiors.

 You’re increasing your self-esteem: According to many

researches, animals have been proved as a boon, not only

emotionally but also psychologically and physically for human

beings According to a research, in 2.7 million, only one pet have

home. That’s the actual number of the dogs and other pets

adopted who are yet euthanized every year in US, easily due to

the reason that innumerable pet desire for shelters and only a

small no. of people adopt them.

 You’re increasing your self-esteem: According to many

researches, animals have been proved as a boon, not only

emotionally but also psychologically and physically for human

beings. They give you unconditional love and live like a family

member. It lives with you as your companion and provides a

feeling of completeness and eliminates all your worries and also it

makes you proud for helping them.

 You’re responsible for environment as well: You reprocess the

paper as well as plastic, so that it would not wind up in ground fills,

and you’re aware of the fact that all recycled things allows you to

make any types of things. A reprocessed pet can turn into

something better, it can make you happy.

 You’re changing the homeless animal’s world: You are getting

a best friend for your life and you’re helping an animal, it is a kind

deed. And every kind deed always returns.

And yet, if you are not convinced, then take some inspiration from

celebrities who love their pets and want to adopt even more.

Recently, the famous comedian Mr. Kapil Sharma adopted a

dog.

Kapil has adopted a retired dog, named as Zanzeer. It was a decent

and gracious initiative. After astonishing the audience with the comic

abilities, Kapil is now depicting his sensitive side as a animal lover and

making a place in our hearts by adopting a Labrador Dog. He adopted

this dog from an NGO of stray animals.

contribution?

 How many government and private veterinary hospitals are

at present?

 Do people prefer private over government hospitals or vise

versa?

lovers nor were interested for the talk. (Business oriented)

 At least 100 dogs are murdered unknowingly or knowingly by

uneducated veterinary doctors in the city.

 People mostly prefer Labradors and German shepherd in the city.

 There are approximately 5000 dog owners in Ujjain.

 We came out across a non profitable organisation, by the name

Happy Paws.
Other methods of User research

 Internet surfing

 Surveys

 Observation

 Meetups

 Social media polling

6. Analysis of Research

Our research mainly focused on the following subjects.

Service for stray dogs, as many crimes are frequent all over the

world. Stray dogs do fall victim to these inhuman acts and are often

neglected. Many dog lovers do come in action but even after a point

of time, due to some ill circumstances they are even unable to help

them, and have to leave the stray dogs in a guilt. We also, came

across some feedbacks from the shop owners, complaining the

deaths of pets in Ujjain as they mention clearly that the “doctors here

are fraud”. Hence, we can say that dogs are murdered because of

the unqualified doctors, mostly working in the private sector, as

mentioned by the pet shop owner, located near tower chowk,

Ujjain.

We also, researched and explored app store ,play store, google,

YouTube and other information sources in every possible way. To

our surprise we weren't able to find even a single app, website which

comprises of all these features for pets. Hence, by developing an

app which can connect animal lovers, pet owners, shop owners,

dietitians, veterinary doctors both government veterinary hospitals/

doctors and private veterinary hospitals/ doctors, pet hostels, NGOs

etc (everyone). We are looking forward for the safety of animals, by

making an app which can connect everyone and will keep the

updated eventually and help them, to fulfil their needs for their pets.

7. Exploring scope for the project

The basic concept of the platform is to connect the dog lovers/owners,

pet shops, trainers and vets to reduce pet(dog) related crimes/mishaps

and have an interactive place where the owners could learn to train their

dogs and make some new dog friends in their surrounding area.
After the beta release of the application we can analyse the data for more

detailed information on the number of pet owners using the app area wise

and expand accordingly. We can release the app on a global level once

we have enough response from national users. Also having a huge

user Base will help us fund for further development of the app. For now,

the areas we should focus on are the urban areas as there are more dog

owners in those areas.

8. Redefined brief

The whole idea of our application was to connect all pet lovers and

owners who care for dogs as much as they care for their son or

daughter. But after research we found that there is more need of

awareness in vets or doctors who don’t give much importance in

helping dogs as they are much more inclined towards business and

money. People usually don’t care more about stray dogs, so we

want to spread awareness among people and all the doctors that no

life is wasted and that we should help them too.

9. Variations of concepts

Our research was based on safety for stray dogs so we decide on

how many ways we could help them or other people could help
those poor souls. we decided with few basic things or needs of stray

dogs. All these things can be found on our application.

1: Handling them - This would consist of things like basic food that

people could provide or the ways to feed them and handle them. We

would also provide with medical issue related information.

2: Training - People can teach stuff to the dogs like playing with

them, running behind, eat from the food container kept by their side.

3: Health conditions - People who are users of our app can share

the dog’s health conditions online to alert others who live in that area

so that if the person is passing by he can help that dog by giving him

food or giving medical aid.

4: Location - our app asks the user to put his or her permanent

location so that app includes you in info of only that particular area,

so if somebody shares any news about stray dogs like health

conditions, adoption status, nearby NGO’s to take to, closest

veterinary.

5: Dog share: This is where the users can share the pictures of

stray dogs telling their stories through snapshots and helping them

in recovery in any case of injury. If a dog is hurt or in an accident

putting up in dog share can alert people to come and help in any

way possible like providing with food, medical aid, playing with him.
On this platform they can also share stuff that dogs do on daily basis

to monitor their behaviour and if you are lucky you might see

something great or cute.

6: Normal symptoms or basic cure: we would provide you with

basic medical information or symptoms that would give you the idea

on how to treat the dogs condition in any case of emergency or

accident.

10. Detail out one concept

We are designing an app that will cover problems and queries of

every owner or let be any concerned person. This app will provide

solutions for queries like Emergencies, Breeding, socialising for pets, Pet

shops, reminders, health issues etc.

Hence, contributing in saving lives and curing opening the doors to the

world of paws.

11. Roadblocks and opportunity for future.

Roadblocks

While doing the survey the team had bit of difficulty while interacting

with the shop owners and most of them were neither pet lovers nor
were interested in taking the survey/ have a talk about dogs

Also Ujjain is not a place with much dog owners so it was kind of

hard to find locals for an interaction about dogs.

Opportunities.

After getting a positive response form the current user Base we

could think of taking the platform to a global level. US is a good place

to start globally as a lot of singles in US own dogs to help with

loneliness.

Also as we grow to a bigger user Base we could start up a trust fund

for the stray dogs or cooperate with organisations like 'Lucky Bark'

and 'Sponsor and Foster' to raise funds with the help of our user

base.

Also we could arrange events for the dog owners (users). We could

also start our own range of merchandise for the owners and dogs

both. These plans would also help to raise funds and work as

adverts for our platform.
