TWO lawmakers are pushing "No Homework,, mea-
sures.
Quezon City Representative Alfred Vargas pro-
posed "no hom6wori<- duringweekends whilJpup"ry
Speaker Evelina Escudero wanted no assignmente"ery
duy.
Both proposals aim to give the school children more
time to bond with their fainilies while at home and will
restrict studies to school hourd.
House Bill 388 or No Homework on Weekends Act
o1t9-t9 authored by Vargas seeks to ban all elementary
and high schools from aiiowing teachers to give homd,
work or assignments over the *eekend.

Citing a sfudyin WesternCape,South Africa, Vargas
said some scholars perceived lnd argued that horile-
work is a burden trylrildretr and parlnts, that family
time has declined and that undermiires leaminginteresi.

Vargas said the bill will promote schoolchildren's
"physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well-
being."
Meanwhile, Escudero is proposing no homework
every day for Kinder to Graiie 1,2 stud-ents.
Escudero also wanted to ban the bringing of text-
books athome for kinder to Grade 6 studenlin ill public
and private schools.
Section 4 of Escudero's bill states that all basic
education schools shall make sure that their respective
teacherswill not give homework assignments to^Kinde.
to Gradei.12 students by conducting all lessons and
activities in school.
Section 5 says all basic education schools shall ensure
that all Kinder to Grade 6 students shall deposit and
leave their textbooks in school and no textboois shallbe
broughthome to prevent the adverse effects of carrying
heavy bags to an-d from school.
Section 6 will require schools to have lockers for the
storage of students' books.
