Visual Basic .NET (VB.NET) is a multi-paradigm, high level programming language, implemented on the
.NET Framework. Microsoft launched VB.NET in 2002 as the successor to its original Visual Basic
language.
• VB was developed by Allan Cooper, an American computer scientist in the late 1980’s.
• Was created for the main purpose of teaching programmers and developers how to design and
develop GUI programs easily.
• PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES
1. COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language) was one of the earliest high-level programming
languages. It was developed in 1959 by a group of computer professionals called the Conference
on Data Systems Languages (CODASYL).
2. FORTRAN- One of the oldest programming languages, the FORTRAN was developed by a team of
programmers at IBM led by John Backus, and was first published in 1957. The name FORTRAN is
an acronym for FORmula TRANslation, because it was designed to allow easy translation of math
formulas into code. It was the first high-level language, using the first compiler ever developed.
3. 3. The Java programming Language evolved from a language named Oak. Oak was developed in
the early nineties at Sun Microsystems as a platform-independent language aimed at allowing
entertainment appliances such as video game consoles and VCRs to communicate .
4. 4. C++ is a computer programming language created in 1983 by Bjarne Stroustrup and designed
to serve as an enhanced version of the C language. It is object oriented and is considered a high
level language. However, it features low level facilities. C++ is one of the most commonly used
programming languages.
5. 5. Basic is a very powerful language as a tool for the novice programmer. Basic allows for a wide
range of applications, and it has many versions. However, as long as the emphasis is on the
techniques of programming and problem solving, the specific syntax is easy to follow.
6. 6. The Logo Programming Language, a dialect of Lisp, was designed as a tool for learning. Its
features - interactivity, modularity, extensibility, flexibility of data types - follow from this goal.
7. Although there are some versions of Logo that compile, it is generally implemented as an
interpreted language.
8. 7. PASCAL a high-level programming language developed by Niklaus Wirth in the late 1960s.
The language is named after Blaise Pascal, a seventeenth-century French mathematician who
constructed one of the first mechanical adding machines. Pascal is best known for its affinity to
structured programming techniques. The nature of the language forces programmers to design
programs methodically and carefully. For this reason, it is a popular teaching language.
