Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the discussion, the Grade 7 students should be able to
demonstrate the following:
a. identify similar terms
b. add or combine polynomials
c. use addition of polynomials in real life situations.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Addition of Polynomials

Materials: Visual Aids ( Cartolina, Flash Cards, Cut Outs)

III. Procedure

A. Motivation

The teacher will give a short activity. She will show flash cards with
jumbled letters to the students and will ask them to guess what word they
can form from the given letters. There will be 6 flash cards that will form
the words similar term, unlike term, polynomial, variable, constant,
exponent. The given words will be discussed in the presentation of the
lesson.

B. Presentation

To start the presentation of the lesson, the teacher will give the
definition of the polynomial. In discussing the definition the teacher will
show one example of polynomial (4x2y+3x-5y+9). From the example given
the teacher will ask the students to identify which ire the variables,
exponents and constants.
First term – 4x2y
Variables- x and y

Constant – 4

Exponents – 2(for x) and 1(for y)

Second term – 3x

Variable - x

Constant – 4

Exponent - 1

Third term – (-5y)

Variable - y

Constant – (-5)

Exponent – 1

Last term - 9

Constant – 9

After that, the teacher will give two equations (6y2+5x-2y-5 and 3y2+5y-
7x+14). She will show the steps on how to add polynomials using;

(6y2+5x2-2y-5)+( 3y2+5y-7x2+14)
a. Horizontal Method

1. She will ask the students to identify which are the similar terms.
6y2 and 3y2

5x and -7x

-2y and 5y

-5 and 14

2. Place similar terms together.

6y2+3y2+5x-7x-2y+5y-5+14

3. Add the similar terms.

9y2-2x+3y+9
b. Vertical Method
1. Line up the similar terms
6y2 + 5x - 2y - 5
3y2 - 7x + 5y + 14

2. Add
6y2 + 5x - 2y - 5
3y2 - 7x + 5y + 14

9y2 - 2x + 3y + 9

C. Fixation of Skills

The teacher will give three equations that the students will add
using the two methods in adding polynomials discussed earlier. The
students will solve first on their own and then one representative will show
the solution on the board.
(3a2+7b+4c)+(-15a2+3b-12c)+(2a2-5b-6c)

IV. Evaluation

The teacher will give an activity for the students.

The scenario will be in a fast food restaurant. The teacher will be the
costumer going through a drive thru. The students will play the role of the person
working on the drive thru and will write the orders of the costumers. The teacher
will give her 2 batch of orders.

First order:

4 hamburgers, 2 cheeseburgers, 3 double hamburgers, 2 more

hamburgers, add 4 cheeseburgers, and 13 napkins.

Second order:

4 napkins, 5 double cheeseburgers, 5 hamburgers, add 6 napkins,

5 double hamburgers, 7 hamburgers, 1 cheeseburger, and finally
remove 3 hamburgers

After giving the orders, the teacher will ask the students to simplify their
notes as fallows;
Hamburgers = h

Cheeseburgers= c

Double hamburgers = h2

Double cheeseburgers= c2

Napkins = constant

V. Assignment

Solve:
The lengths of the sides of the triangle are a=5x+8, b=12x-4, c=14-2x.
What is the perimeter of the triangle?
Lesson Plan in Mathematics 8

I. Learning Objectives

At the of the discussion the Grade 8 students should be able to

demonstrate the following:

a. define the measures of central tendency; mean, median, and mode

b. calculate the mean, median, and mode of ungrouped data

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Mean, Median, Mode of Ungrouped Data

References: Grade 7 Mathematics pp. 446-455
Materials: Visual Aids( Charts, Cut outs)

III. Procedure

A. Motivation

The teacher will give a short activity for the students. She will show five
cards with numbers; 8, 3, 7, 10 and 5. After showing the numbers, the teacher
will give the instruction one by one and the students will answer orally.

1. Arrange the numbers from least to greatest.

3, 5, 7, 8, 7

2. Add the five numbers.

3+5+7+8+7

= 30

3. Divide the sum of the numbers to the number of data.

30/5

=6

4. Flip over cards on opposite ends until you rich the middle value.

__7__

5. Find the most frequent number.

B. Presentation

To start the presentation of the lesson, the teacher will discuss the
definition of mean, median and mode using the activity in the motivation. She will
also discuss how to get the mean, median, and mode. Through out the discussion she
will give some example to explain more the lesson.

Mean - is the sum of the data divided by the number of data.

Median - is the middle nunber of the set of data when the data are
arranged in numerical order.

Mode - is the number that occurs most frequently in the data.

C. Fixation of skills

The teacher will give the data and the students will find the mean,
median and mode. The students will answer first on their own and after
answeribg the teacher will call four students to show the answer on the board,
one for arranging the data in ascending order, one for ginding the mean, one for
the median and one for the mode.

Given the scores of 10 students, find the mean, median and mode.

15, 19, 11, 16, 19, 18, 14, 19, 15, 17

IV. Evaluation

The teacher will give a group activity. She will divide the class into
four groups by counting off. After the students go to their groups, the teacher will
discuss instructions for the activity. They will write their answer on a one whole
sheet of pad paper.

1. Choose your own data. (allowance, scores, grades, no of hours

watching tv) Each of the member will give data.

2. Find the mean, median and mode.
