Course Description
This course is designed to bridge the gap between Algebra II (2330), Geometry (2430), and
collegiate courses in mathematics. Emphasis will be placed on linear, polynomial, rational, trigonometric,
exponential, and logarithmic functions, matrices, systems of equations and inequalities, and other algebraic
and geometric concepts. Students will use graphing calculators and computer software for various
mathematical applications. Both topics and depth of study aim to be consistent with the expectations of a
traditional College Algebra course required for many non-math dependent collegiate majors or many
associate degree programs.

Text: Larson, College Algebra, 9th ed.

 Students should mark their name and the present condition of their text in the front of
their book.
 Book should be returned in June in the same condition in which it was received.
 Students will be charged at the end of the year for abuse, neglect, or loss of their text (so
keep track of your book!)

Course Schedule
Semester One Semester Two
1. Basic Algebraic Operations 4. Functions
2. Equations and Inequalities 5. Polynomial and Rational Functions
3. Graphs 6. Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

Materials
Students should come prepared with all of the following materials necessary for class each day:
Textbook Notebook (only acceptable writing utensil for exams)
Pencil
Homework Pen/Highlighter Graphing Calculator (TI-84 Plus
graphing calculator recommended)
Attendance
The greatest tool each student has towards being successful in math is attendance. The days you
miss break the learning sequence and hurt you. Math is a culminating subject where one day builds on the
next and so on. Thus, material missed may lead to math becoming unnecessarily difficult.
If you must be absent, it is your responsibility to obtain missed assignments/content. Use the
following steps as an outline for handling make-up work:
1. Check Make-up Assignment Board for missed tests/quizzes.
Schedule a time with Miss Myers to complete the assessment.
Students will have one cycle to make-up the missed assessment without penalty.
After one cycle, quizzes will receive a 0%, tests will lose 10% per day until reaching a
maximum of 50% deducted.
2. Check class folder in the Absentee Handouts Bin for missed notes, worksheets, projects, etc.
Students will have the same number of days as their absence (as outlined the in the
student handbook) to complete the missed assignments without penalty.
3. Copy missed notes from any of the following:
The class binder, a classmate, or Miss Myers’ website
www.northernpbmath.weebly.com
4. Check Chapter Assignment Sheet for the homework assignment that was given on the day of
your absence.
5. Show Miss Myers the homework that was due on the day of your absence.
6. Get a pass for Math Lab to get additional help with notes, homework questions, etc. as necessary.
Grading: A 93-100% B 85-92% C 77-84% D 70-76% F below 70%
Sapphire Grade Book Codes:
 0 – Assignment is calculated as a zero and can no longer be turned in for credit.
 M – Assignment is “missing” (whether from absence or a failure to complete it) and
may still be turned in for credit. This score is calculated as a “zero” until student
turns in the assignment.
 C – Assignment has been “collected” but not yet graded. No score is attributed to the
“C” code, so the student’s final grade will not be affected until the actual score is
keyed into the gradebook.
 Ex – Assignment is “exempt/excused” and will not count against the student’s grade.

Homework: (4 pts each)

 Homework will be checked periodically for completion. Students should always
show all work. Only problems with complete work will receive full credit.
 Homework may be collected periodically for accuracy. Collected assignments
may receive more than 4 pts.
 Homework may be turned in late up until one week before the end of the
marking period. Homework turned in one day late will receive a 3 out of 4.
Homework turned in two days late or later will receive no more than a 2 out of 4.
Quizzes: (10-25 pts each)
 Students must use a pencil on all quizzes. The use of any other writing utensil
will result in a 10% deduction on the assignment.
 Students may NOT share calculators on any quiz. Students may NOT use their
phone as a calculator on a quiz.
 Missing the review the day before the quiz will NOT be grounds for taking
the quiz late.
 Should you choose to cut class on the day of a quiz, no makeup quiz will be
permitted.
 Failing quiz grades may be corrected to receive a passing score. Quiz
corrections must be written on a separate sheet of paper and must be turned in
within one cycle to receive additional credit.
Tests: (50-100 pts each)
 Students must use a pencil on all tests. The use of any other writing utensil will
result in a 10% deduction on the assignment.
 Students may NOT share calculators on any test. Students may NOT use their
phone as a calculator on a quiz.
Notebook Quiz: (20 pts each)
 Notebook quizzes will take place at the end of each chapter.
 Students should keep and organize all in-class notes, homework assignments,
and handouts in order to receive full credit.
Other/Projects
Final Exam
 Final exam will account for 10% of the final grade.
 Anyone who maintains an A average for quarters 1 – 4 will be exempt from the
final exam

Classroom Rules and Expectations

 Students should be in their seat and prepared for  Students should use their class time wisely and work
class when the bell rings. Being prepared for the entire period. Class is not over until the bell
includes: rings at the end of the period.
having homework out to be checked  Students are expected to do math work in the math
having paper, pencil, calculator out to begin classroom. Students will not be permitted to work on
the warm-up problems other assignments during class without first obtaining
having note packets out to begin note-taking permission. Any student who chooses to ignore this
if returning from an absence, copying notes rule will have their non-math related assignment
from the previous day(s). confiscated.
 Students will not distract others from learning.
I have read the Keystone Honor’s Geometry syllabus.
(Print Name)
I am aware of the expectations for this class and will do my utmost best to abide by them.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to incorporate several web-based resources into this course, but I need to
know my students’ accessibilities. Please answer each of the following questions so that I
may judge which projects are applicable for students this year.

Thank you,
Miss Myers
