DESCRIPTION
The design of the structural steel buildings allows to use the advantages compared with others
materials, such as the dead load’s decrease and easiness of assembly. Currently in Colombia, the
use is so reduced due to low knowledge respect to the requirements of global analysis which require
solving problems of inelasticity,
non-linearity, and fabrication of the members and construction of the structures imperfections, which
hinders the development economic and technical aspects of various disciplines used in the design,
construction and maintenance of structures, such as manufacturing processes; Behavioral theories
under load; Manufacturing technologies; Design supported by computer programs; And the efficiency
in the construction, which around the world has generated the increase of the application of buildings
increasingly high, for this job is expected a structure stronger and lighter. This demand requires the
solution to the problems related to the stability of the same, which play an important role in the safe
and
lightweight design. Structural steel constructions change the traditional design and construction path
in materials such as concrete and structural masonry, which have a larger experimental and
investigative development in the region; In terms of structural steel, its application in height, makes
possible its economic use, justified by the design of a structure with less weight compared to other
materials.
The present work aims to contribute in a practical and investigative way to the resolution of these
problems by developing a procedure applied to a structure located in the city of Bucaramanga in order
to show the correct application of the method of direct analysis together with the other required
requirements By the Reglamento Colombiano de Construcción Sismo Resistente NSR-10., which is
based in turn on the American Standards ASCE 7, AISC 360 and AISC 341 that represent the title A,
B and F of the current Colombian norm.
