“A Comparative Study on the Different Parts of Mongo

( Vigna Radiata ) as Soil Additive”

Introduction:

The world has been producing ideas and information in sustaining the needs of advancements.
People are eagerly aiming for an easy life. In some results, negative impacts are arising.

Many farmers have noted that even after using chemical fertilizers, the crop yield in their farms
have reduced over the years. The major reason for this is the continuous use of chemical fertilizers
which have depleted the soils. Fertilizers such as DAP, Urea and CAN tend to lower the soil pH which
causes acidity and leaching of essential nutrients from the soil; any crop planted in such soil cannot do
well. Thus, farmers switch to organic fertilizers.

Organic fertilizers have immense benefits for the soil and crop production. Unlike chemical
fertilizers, organic fertilizers reduce acidity in the soil and do not cause leaching. Hence, beneficial
microorganisms can’t be killed. Organic fertilizers also improve the structure of the soil including the
circulation of air, which sustains beneficial microorganisms that helps release nutrients to the soil.

Legumes are known to have nitrogen-fixing symbiotic bacteria called rhizobia found inside their
root nodules. This bacteria produces nitrogen compounds which helps enrich the soil. That’s why Vigna
Radiata can be ploughed back into fields as “green manure”, a crop to provide extra nutrients and
organic matter to soil. Furthermore, even after harvesting the seeds of the Vigna Radiata, the plant can
be reused as a way of fertilizing the soil for the next cycle of crops.

In order to attain a beneficial in nature and a free-chemical soil and plants, the researchers
thought of a way by making an organic fertilizer (Mongo) that can be easily seen within the locality
through a comparative study on the different parts of the Mongo (Vigna Radiata) as an additive. Thus,
mixing the Mongo in the soil. After testing all the 3 soil samples in which every sample has a specific part
of the mung bean, the difference among them in terms of fertilizing the soil will be evident in this study.

Statement of the Problem:

Due to the increasing problems in regards to the soil and crop production, this research aims to
enrich awareness about the organic fertilizers specifically the Vigna Radiata (Mung Bean) that can be
used as an alternative. In addition, this research also aims to find out the factors that affect the growth
of the plant (height of the plants and wideness of its leaves )

Hypothesis:

Set up 1: ( Roots )
Null Hypothesis: There is no significant effect of the roots of mung bean in the growth of plants.

Alternative Hypothesis: The roots of the mung bean is much effective because of having a high
nutritive value.

Set up 2: ( Stem and Leaves)

Null Hypothesis: There is no significant effect of the stem and leaves of mung bean in the
growth of plants.

Alternative Hypothesis: The stem and leaves of the mung bean is much effective because of
having a high nutritive value.

Set up 3: ( Roots, Stem and Leaves )

Null Hypothesis: There is no significant effect of the roots, stem and leaves of mung bean in the
growth of plants.

Alternative Hypothesis: The roots, stem and leaves of the mung bean is much effective because of
having a high nutritive value.

Scope and Delimitations:

This study was conducted at Talugtog Solsona National High School SHS. This research was
designed for making Mung bean as an fertilizer. This plant was chopped into smaller ones and being
separated in different drums of soil. It needs more than a month to completely decay the plants that are
being mixed with the soil.

Significance of the Study:

This study aims to promote a cheap yet effective organic fertilizer in the locality. This study also
aims to increase awareness for the farmers who are active in farm activities- planting. Thus, producing
less expenses but making a good quality of plants. Furthermore, this study will help the students to have
a background or references for making further studies. Moreover, teachers will be more educated and
aware.

Definition of Terms:

Organic Fertilizers- fertilizers that can be used by farmers with less budget.

Soil pH- measure of the acidity and alkalinity in soils.

Rhizobia- a nitrogen-fixing bacterium that is common in the soil, especially in the root nodules of
leguminous plants.
