I. INTRODUCTION

The presence of friends makes our life worthwhile but it is really difficult
to write a good friend who will be with us in all the circumstances of life.
Friendship is one of the most important and variable things in life. A true
friend is one who never deserts their inseparable companion in the time of
happiness and sorrow. True friends are worth more than all the treasures of the
world. Friendship is doing the best to make friend happy (Smith, 2017 ).

II. DEFINITION OF FRIENDSHIP

Friendship means having someone to rely on. It means having a person

who will tell the brutal truth, whether it is a compliment or an insult. It means
that they have someone who can rely on them for every secret and indecision. It
means they have someone to send corny jokes or pretty pictures because they
know they will appreciate them. Friendship means realizing that another
person plays a big role in their life. It means seeing their face brightens the day
( Hoenig, 2016 ).

2. TYPES OF FRIENDSHIP

2.1 THE BEST FRIEND

This is that one friend who they know, no matter what, will be there for the
rest of their life. You have been through so many experiences together and
know all of each other’s secrets that you feel as close as family. These
friendships can be rough sometimes because they go through the bad as well as
good together, but it is all worth it because these experiences just make their
relationship stronger ( Lopez, 2017 ).
2.2 SELF-INTERESTED FRIENDSHIP

It is well-known that some people use others for their own gain. Some
people do it a lot of and other people would never think of it. Then there is the
small group of people that thinks of friendship like this, to get something out of
it. Everything can always be broken down to a desire and that is always from
within. Everything humans do is motivated by selfish self- interest when you
break it down (Plato,2018 ).

2.3 FRIENDSHIPS OF PLEASURE

Are those where people find each other because of the enjoyment it brings.
People hanging out due to fitting hobbies, common interest, and fishing buddies
are examples. People with whom they do things like playing soccer, going for
long bike rides or cow tipping. Friendship of pleasure is normally built between
the young as passions and pleasures are great influences in their lives

( Tang, 2015 ).

2.4 THE UTILITY FRIENDSHIP

For this type of friendship, describes a relationship in which both people

derive some benefit or usefulness from each other. They are easily dissolved
and shallow. The terror of not having companionship was worse than being
with the wrong companion. They serve a purpose but do not provide the
greatest pleasure of meaning ( McCorry,2018 ).

3. THE BENEFITS OF FRIENDSHIP

3.1 SUPPORT TROUGH TOUGH TIMES

Even if it is just having someone to share their problems with, friends

can help you cope with serious illness, the loss of a job or loved one, the
breakup of a relationship, or any other challenges in life.
3.2 SUPPORT AGE

As age, retirement, illness and the death love of loved ones can often leave
isolated. Knowing there are people they can turn for a company and support
can provide purpose as their age serve as a buffer against depression, disability,
hardship and loss.

3.3 REDUCE YOUR STRESS AND DEPRESSION

Having an active social life can bolster the immune system and help reduce
isolation, a major contributing factor to depression. Friendship also pays a role
in the way the body processes stress , when they spend time with their pals
sharing what is on their mind , the body may produce less of the stress
hormone, cortisol, which can have a calming effect (Robinson, 2019).
