GED101 – A22 Assignment

What was the most significant ideas and concept that you realized in the study of
Understanding the Self? Relate an experience/s which you think you applied what you've
learned in the course.

First, the most significant idea that I realized in studying Understanding the Self
was the idea of spirituality. According to Puchalski (2014), spirituality is “the aspect of
humanity that refers to the way individuals seek and express meaning and purpose and
the way they experience their connectedness to the moment, to self, to others, to nature,
and to the significant or sacred.” It talks about meaning and purpose that goes beyond
the physical realities of his/her life.

One experience that I applied spirituality was the power of praying. I have called
the experiences of spirituality a "downloading" of our greatest self because I believe this
is how a genuine, spiritual connection feels. We feel united with our sense of self, our
level of competence in the world, our talents, and our expertise. It is as though we have
acquired a new personality. Many emphasize a notion of having had a "breakthrough"
moment, one that feels like an ultimate awareness that comes with a sense of complete,
inner security. People describe this experience as, "no matter what happens I feel safe,
secure, and cared for, as though a never-ending, pure, and complete love is staring true
through my eyes."

Why go to all this trouble to discover and live the higher experiences of spiritual
awareness? The short answer is simply this because we are designed for something
more. If you do not slow down and seek this greater life now, you may wake up from your
distractions and addictions too late. Our lives are not supposed to befall to grief and pain.
These real spiritual experiences surpass all understanding to deepen your inner security
and peace, so you can live an inspired and meaningful life.

Lastly, the most significant concept that I realized in studying this course was the
cognitive part of the self, known as the self-concept. This is the part of what is developing
in children as they grow. The self-concept is a knowledge representation that contains
knowledge about us, including our beliefs about our personality traits, physical
characteristics, abilities, values, goals, and roles, as well as the knowledge that we exist
as individuals. Generally, the self-concept is generally thought of as our individual
perceptions of our behavior, abilities, and unique characteristics. It is essentially a mental
picture of who you are as a person.

One experience that I applied on this concept was believing on optimistic sayings
that inspire people. One of the sayings that I applied was self-concept of “I am a good
friend". I applied this saying by means of literally being a good friend and a good example
to other people. Being a good person really helps other people being good too. One
example of this that really inspired me was last September 30, 2018, when my co-
passenger in a jeep had no money for her fare. Another of my co-passenger was about
to leave the jeep but before he left, he gave her a 100.00 php fare for her to go home.
This experience inspired me. It is one of the very deep learnings that has happened to
me. With this experience, I told myself that one day, if I got a job, I would help other people
who almost have nothing. And if you cannot give them, you pray for them. Prayers can
help people too. Prayers are very strong because God listens to us. I want to influence
others to have faith on God and life because their lives have purposes here on eath.
