NEW ONSITE FRENCH LANGUAGE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

September 2017

Context

Increased recruitment has affected the number of French learners onsite.

Attendance rates for the onsite French Training Program are on average between 50 and 65 %.
Priority must be given to those participants who do attend and are committed to learning.
In order to increase this rate and improve the efficiency of learning and in agreement with IO HR, the
onsite Agence ITER France French Program will become part of the onboarding process for all
expatriate staff.
Learning French is necessary to acculturation, thus to staff well-being and performance.

Decisions

In view of this and with the approval of IO Director General Bernard Bigot and AIF Director Jacques
Vayron, starting 1 September 2017, the following is agreed:

1. Learning French is an integral part of the on boarding process for all ITER expatriate DES
2. As such, the time spent learning French will be officially recognized by management as time
spent on professional development. Last minute absences due to last minute meetings and
deadlines must be limited.
3. A Training Commitment form shall be signed by both the participant and their direct line
manager
4. An outlook invitation will specify the dates and times during which French training takes
place and will be visible to those concerned
5. Attendance rates and progress reports will be sent to participants and managers every 6
months
6. A time frame of 2 years must be respected in order to reach Level B1 for onsite classes and
offsite classes (evening)
7. If there are more than 2 absences per month without informing the AIF or the teachers, the
trainee will no longer be allowed to participate.

Thank you for your support and understanding,

Best
