(Dissection of Pig’s Heart)
Put at least 4-5 photos while doing the dissection with caption

- First, we cleaned the heart by

washing it with water

- After cleaning, we remove the

clotting blood in the tubes of the
heart, in order to see it clearly.

- Then, we examined the external

parts of the heart.
After examining the parts outside,
we cut through the heart in half to
see the different parts inside.

Lastly, we examine the different

parts and functions of the heart.
Reflection (how do you relate the activity/topic in life or to your
personal experience)
500 words
This activity taught us not just the different parts and functions of the heart,
but also educated us a lesson in life .Just like in real life, experience is the best
teacher, you have to dissect every moment to gain lessons from it. Identify all the
wrong decisions that you made and take them as a lecture in life to never commit
these same mistakes again. In order to learn deeper, you need to understand the
bottomless part of our life. While dissecting the pig’s heart, I realized that the heart
is complicated to learn because of its parts. Some of it are so small and hidden
inside, that in order to see it, we need to cut the heart in half. But even though they
are small, they have meaning and plays an important role in the circulation of
blood in the body system. Doing the activity, it doesn’t just taught us an academic
lesson but also a sudden realization that the every part of the organs in the body is
important and needed to be taken care of.
I’ve learned that by dissecting the pig’s heart, the body needs the heart in
order to function well. Like a human heart, the pig heart has two atriums and two
ventricles, it also has four valves and an aorta. The human heart has also the same
size as the heart of a pig, these similarities allow blood to flow through a pig’s
heart in the same way it flows through a human’s heart. In fact, pig hearts are so
similar to human hearts that tissue from pig hearts is used to make heart valve
replacements for humans. These resemblances, combined with the fact that they
are much more readily available than human hearts, make them an ideal choice for
research and study. The activity taught me that the best way of learning is through
experience in which I saw the closest model to the heart of a human, and able to
identify the different parts and its functions to the human body.
Although mankind is a supreme being above all kinds or organisms, the
activity also tells us that we have a common ground with regards to the anatomy of
some animals. Just like the heart of the pig, it can be inferred that we can use
animal body parts to study human anatomy and it much safer to use. It also shows
us that experiencing hand by hand learning, is an effective way to learn new things.
It can be identified easily if we felt it by our hands and seen by our naked eyes,
compared to reading it by books and watching on television. This kind of activity
should be continued because of its efficiency and accuracy. My group mates and I
really enjoyed doing this kind of doings, because it is much effortless and easy to
comprehend. I expect more activities like this in the future because, this type of
learning is truly one of a kind.
