JSL’s operational activities in Pakistan comprise of handling and transportation of Rigs and allied
Oil exploration equipment including line pipes etc as well as specialized Project equipment such
as compressors, coolers, slug catchers etc...
JSL already has an internal Emergency Preparedness Plan in place. This, therefore, is an
additional bridging document for our specific activity in Pakistan, clearly defining how JSL will
try to cope with all sorts of likely hazards and emergencies, such as fire, road accidents, incidents,
natural calamities, etc., that may emerge during the provision of logistics support from JSL
Karachi Base to major cities of Pakistan.
To manage any unforeseen situation, the following plans are in place:
Emergency Planning for Fire
All JSL fleet comprising of cranes, trailers, pickups, etc., is equipped with fire extinguishers,
which all our crewmembers have been trained in-house to use (through intermittent fire drills at
JSL yard) in case a fire erupts. These Fire Extinguishers have also been installed at various areas
at our workshop and head office.
However, if the fire is serious, and not controllable through fire extinguishers, help from nearest
fire stations, as per list below, will be acquired.
There is at least a two-member crew for each vehicle such as a driver and a helper for trailer and a
driver, an operator and a helper for crane. Thus, if anything serious happens to one of the
crewmembers the other will be in a position to help him out, i.e. to give him necessary first aid
and inform the senior staff members if further help is required.
Additionally, as for rig moves and project work in Pakistan, JSL vehicles move in convoy, in case
of an emergency, the convoy leader will be notified who will immediately make necessary
arrangements. Similarly, if something happens at jobsite, the site supervisor will be responsible to
tackle the situation with the help of UEP field staff. However, if something happens to the site
supervisor, who travels in a pickup, the driver of the pickup, who also has the necessary training
to deal with any emergencies, will help him out, and will be able to call for external help with the
help of the phones he uses.
