SAMMARY OF PIT PLANING AND DESING

The first thing that people should know about pit planning and design
is that to keep unit costs to a minimum, we must execute and planned
very carefully and not do it to do, for this we must keep in mind three
important factors, which are: natural and geologic factors, economic
factors, technological factors.

We must keep in mind that the first five years of mine exploitation are
of the utmost importance to know if the life of the mining company
continues or if it simply paralyzes, because we can not continue if we
do not obtain profits, since during these years we can know if this
mining company generates profits or is only causing us losses, for this
we must know the objectives that allow us to have a better planning in
open pit mining, and for a good achievement of these objectives the
company must analyze in detail the extraction and the deposit.
For a better study or feeling this area is divided into three methods:
1. LONG-RANGE MINE PLANNING
To carry out this method, the mine realizes a division of the
deposit into blocks and each of them is assigned values according
to the grade of the mineral it contains, besides this plan will be
subject to changes during the life of the mine and this it is due
to changes in market conditions and technological advances, to
determine the maximum permitted economic dismount
relationship we use the following formula:

𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑟𝑒 − 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑡

𝑆𝑅𝑚𝑎𝑥 =
𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑝𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑡

This plan currently uses software for the analysis of mineral blocks and,
at the same time, determines the profitability of the mine. Finally, this
method must be updated due to the changes that occur.

2. SHORT-RANGE MINE PLANNING
After the long-range surface mining plan has been completed, a
series of short-range mining plants is developed for a better
extraction process and helps to guide the extraction process, and
in this plan there is a better definition of mineral blocks and waste
in terms of grade and metallurgical characteristics. In addition
smaller blocks are used and sometimes additional drilling may be
required to estimate the block grades. To determine a short-term
plan in mining we will use objectives, within this plan we have to
know operations research techniques such as mathematical
programming, dynamics, critical route and other methods.
3. PRODUCTION CHEDULING
This method is used for the allocation of block production
equipment in the pit. This production program is elaborated for
periods less than a month approximately, within this method it is
necessary to work according to the limitations of the plan of the
short range mine and it is modified daily, this allows know the
changes of availability of the equipment and adapt to them.
Production programming for now is the most useful due to the
ability of mining companies to extract material extracted within
a given block in various products to be towed to different
destinations, for this reason the programming of Production
becomes a powerful tool when used in this way.
