Is Full Day School a Good Idea?

Full day school is an educational program which applied by Indonesian government where the learning
activities are fully held at school all day long. All day here means that the learning activities started from 7 am
until 4 pm. Learning activity and morality education is all people needed nowadays. Morality education is
important because, all we need is people who not only brainy and scholarly but good in morality. How about we
see the other side, in student side. That’s it! Full day school is spontaneity effect the student learning activity. So,
is full day school a good idea?
There is no doubt that full day school is an excellent programs that government create to remodel the
Indonesian education system. This remodel is especially important to find the education system who match with
culture, habits, and Indonesian people personality. This is in line with the government program: mental
revolution. The minister of education, Muhadjir Effendy make sure that full day school which have morality
education it will support the government. And also its can be increased the morality and people attitude start
from student.
Full day school is great idea from the government to remodel the Indonesian education system. Full day
make the student have more time in effective study in five days and longer holiday. In SMA Negeri 1 Singaraja,
this program usually called five day school. Five day school in SMA Negeri 1 Singaraja welcomed by student’s
parents. There is three major reason of the student’s patents respond. First, the student do not have any
homework so they can spend their time to study not for doing homework. Sometimes too much homework is
wasting time and decrease student’s learning time. Too much homework also make the student sick because
their body feel tired and decrease their body immunity. Second, student have longer time to spend their time
with family. Monday and Saturday is family time. Before full day school held, student only have one day for family
time. Third, student have more learning time in school, not only in formal class, but in informal time or doing
light discussion. In school a lot of good activities can be held. Student can discuss about anything with their
friends, they can use the school learning facilities, and they can get closer with everyone in school. I state
everyone because student not only interact with fellow student, but they can interact with the teachers, school
staffs, school gardeners, cleaning services, and also securities.
The reason above are seen from the parent and the school side. Now, how about notice from the student
side. Student is the main subject of this program. The most valid subject to observe the effectiveness of full day
school. I’m personally mind that full day school is not good as I state above. There is four reason why I refuse full
day school. First, Full day means education activity held all day long. It accidently disturb the student’s afternoon
schedule. After school, student will feel so tired after all day long study at school. It make all time after school
spent for rest. Student who feel tired usually sleep early and wake up in next morning. They will not prepare and
study for the next day. And it also can make the student sick because their body feel tired and decrease their
body immunity. It is use less for student. It make student can’t study maximal at home. They can’t do their
hobbies in tired too. Second, full day make the student hard to do activity after school. They lack of time for that
activity. They can do a productive activity before the dawn comes. Third, full day inhibit student to get
achievement in a competition. They inhibit to participate at a competition because there are no time provide to
prepare all the needed for the competition. And it also decrease the desire to winning the achievement. Forth,
as I know form my friends at Bandung, Bogor, and Bekasi they doing full day, but they still got the homework.
And in my mind I think that not at all school did not give homework while full day school held in their school.
I personally agree with government new regulation of full day school, that’s so many benefits of it. But
in other side, it’s so disturb for the student’s afternoon schedule. The student can’t manage their time and the
activity after the school. The student feel tired and may be can make the student sick because tired body
decrease the body immunity. Education must be needed not a load. Educating the heart not educating the brain.
