What’s New in DataStage v8.1

Course Description

Understand about new DataStage v8.1 as in IBM Information Server environment. You will know all new
features of DataStage v8.1 which includes new features of Designer and Administrator, Web
Administration Console, Connector stages, new features of the Lookup and Complex Flat File stages,
Slowly changing Dimensions stage, Repository functionality including search and impact analysis,
performance and resource analysis tools.

Your New Skills

You should be able to:

 Use range based lookups using the new Lookup Stage


 Implement SCDs using Slowly Changing Dimensions Stage
 Using the new ODBC and DB2 Connector Stages instead of EE/API stages
 Conduct Repository searches, Find dependencies and impact analysis
 Analyze performance and resource usage using the new DataStage/QualityStage tools
 Create,secure assign role to Suite and DataStage/QualityStage users
 Administer the IBM Information Server environment using Web Consol
 Query XMETA to retrieve information which used to be in UNIVERSE
 Migrate your old environment to new 8.1

Eligibility Length: 2 or 3 days


Format: Web OR Instructor lead
 Existing experience with DataStage Enterprise Edition 7.x Audience : Minimum 6
 Knowledge of UNIX or Client / Server concepts
Programming skills Daily Schedule
Start: 10:00 a.m.
Lunch: One hour (1:00 – 2:00)
End: 4:00 p.m.
Breaks: As needed

Working with Relational Data


Objectives: Import Table Definitions for relational tables. Create Data Connections and use
Connector stages in a job. Use SQL Builder to define SQL Select, Insert and Update statements.

Complex Flat File Stage


Objectives: Import table definitions from a COBOL copybook. Design a job that extracts data from a
COBOL file containing multiple record types. Specify in a Complex Flat File (CFF) stage the column
layouts of each record type, and how to identify when a record is read of a specific type. Select in a
CFF stage which columns from the different records types are to be output from the stage.

DataStage Utilities
Objectives: Analyze the performance of a job, and estimate the resources needed by a job.
