IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY THROUGH SNOWBALL
THROWING TECHNIQUE IN THE FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS OF
SEKOLAH DASAR NEGERI 5 SUMERTA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2010/2011
1.1 Background of the Study
English is one of international languages, which is used in all over the world. English teaching involves of four language skills, they are Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. In teaching and learning a language, there are four aspects that support four language skill above such as : grammar, vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation that are also taught in English teaching and learning process. Vocabulary is a component of language that maintains all of information about meaning and using word in language. In learning English, vocabulary is important to communicate with other people, because if you want to communicate you must already know hundreds of English words. In teaching English vocabulary for young learners, the teacher should give the interesting method to make the students more easily to improve the vocabulary. The researcher is highly motivated to use snowball throwing technique to improving the students English vocabulary. 1.2 Statement of the Research Question To that extent the effectiveness of snowball throwing technique in improving the students’ vocabulary of Sekolah Dasar Negeri 5 Sumerta in academic year 2010/2011. 1.3 The Objective of Study Find out whether snowball throwing can improve students in teaching vocabulary and know the students response of snowball throwing technique in teaching vocabulary. 1.4 Limitation of the Study Improving the students, vocabulary through snowball throwing technique. 1.5 Assumption 1. The students will be assumed to have learning vocabulary using snowball throwing technique. 2. The students will be assumed to have the same high motivation in learning English. 1.5 The Significance of the Study a. For teacher : to help them improve their performance in teaching English. b. For students : they can improve their mastery in vocabulary. c. For researcher : will know the effectiveness of the method. d. For other researcher : can use the result of this study to conduct other researcher. 1.5 Hypothesis The students’ vocabulary can be improved by using snowball throwing technique 1.6 Definition of the Key Terms Improving : action that make the students’ ability better Vocabulary : component of language that maintains all of information about meaning and using word in language.
