de
The complement marker, 得 , follows the verb and introduces the upcoming
complement, which describes the result or state of the action suggested by the
verb.

这种手机卖得很好。
Zhè zhǒng shǒujī mài de hěn hǎo.
This type of cell phone sells well.

他中文说得不错。
Tā Zhōngwén shuō de búcuò.
He speaks Chinese quite well.

Notice: When its object directly follows the verb, the verb is repeated before 得
and the complement.

我做中国菜做得很好。
Wǒ zuò Zhōngguó cài zuò de hěn hǎo.
I cook Chinese food very well.

你学中文学得怎么样？
Nǐ xué Zhōngwén xué de zěnmeyàng?
How did you do on your Mandarin class?

every, each

每 indicates reference with no exceptions. Sentences with 每 almost always have

the adverb 都 (dōu, means "all") to reinforce the sense of “no exception”. See
the examples below.
每天 (měi tiān) is the same as 每一天 (měi yì tiān, means "every (single) day"). 一
(yī, means "one") is often omitted. Similarly, 每个 (měige) is the same as 每一个
(měi yíge, means "every (single) one").

那商家每个礼拜三都有特价 .
Nà shāngjiā měi ge lǐbàisān dōu yǒu tèjià.
That store has a sale every Wednesday.

我每个周末都去夜市。
Wǒ měi ge zhōumò dōu qù yèshì.
I go to night market every weekend.

我们的中文课每天上一个小时。
Wǒmen de Zhōngwén kè měi tiān shàng yí ge xiǎoshí.
We have Chinese class for one hour everyday.

以后
yǐhòu
after… with

以后 is a conjunction that sequences an event subsequent to a given time.

Notice: The structure is “Time + 以后 + event”, The slot time can be occupied
by various elements such as Time-When, Time-Duration or An event.

晚上九点以后，我不吃东西。
Wǎnshàng jiǔ diǎn yǐhòu, wǒ bù chī dōngxi.
I don’t eat anything after 9 o’clock at night.

一年半以后，我要跟家人去美国旅行。
Yìnián bàn yǐhòu, wǒ yào gēn jiārén qù Měiguó lǚxíng.
One and a half years from now, I am going to travel the States (USA) with my
family.

我下课以后，常常在图书馆上网。
Wǒ xiàkè yǐhòu, chángcháng zài túshūguǎn shàngwǎng.
After class, I often use the internet in the library.

柜台： 你好。
Guìtái: Nǐ hǎo.
Receptionist: Hello.

本： 你好，我想学中文。
Ben: Nǐ hǎo, wǒ xiǎng xué Zhōngwén.
Ben: Hello. I’d like to study Chinese.

柜台： 好，你的中文程度怎么样 ?
Guìtái: Hǎo, nǐ de Zhōngwén chéngdù zěnmeyàng?
Receptionist: Ok, how good is your Chinese?

本： 我不确定。我在美国学中文，学了八个月。现在我想要继续学。
Ben: Wǒ bú quèdìng. Wǒ zài Měiguó xué Zhōngwén, xué le bā ge yuè.
Xiànzài wǒ xiǎngyào jìxù xué.
Ben: I’m not sure. I studied Chinese in the States (USA) for eight months. I’m
thinking now I’d like to continue with it.

柜台： 请你先做测验，做完以后，我们再告诉你适合上什么课，好吗？
Guìtái: Qǐng nǐ xiān zuò cèyàn, zuò wán yǐhòu, wǒmen zài gàosu nǐ shìhé
shàng shénme kè, hǎo ma?
Receptionist: Please take the placement test first. After you’ve finished, we’ll tell
you which class is suitable for you, OK?

本： 好的。测验包括哪一些内容 ?
Ben: Hǎo de. Cèyàn bāokuò nǎ yìxiē nèiróng?
Ben: OK. What kind of skills will this test cover?

柜台： 有读写和听力
Guìtái: Yǒu dú xiě hé tīnglì.
Receptionist: It will cover reading and writing as well as listening.

本： 好，我可以现在做测验吗？
Ben: Hǎo, wǒ kěyǐ xiànzài zuò cèyàn ma?
Ben: OK, can I take the test right now?

Guìtái: Hǎo de, méi wèntí. Qǐng gēn wǒ lái.
Receptionist: Sure, no problem. Please follow me.

Receptionist: You did very well, so we recommend you take the intermediate class.

本： 好，请问上课时间是什么时候？
Ben: Hǎo, qǐngwèn shàngkè shíjiān shì shénme shíhòu?
Ben: Great, what time does the class start?

柜台： 中级班是每天早上十点到下午一点。
Guìtái: Zhōngjíbān shì měitiān zǎoshàng shí diǎn dào xiàwǔ yī diǎn.
Receptionist: The intermediate class meets from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm every day.

本： 好的，对我来说，这个时间很好。学费多少钱？
Ben: Hǎo de, duì wǒ lái shuō, zhège shíjiān hěn hǎo. Xuéfèi duōshǎo qián?
Ben: Nice, this time is good for me. How much is the tuition?

柜台： 三个星期的学费是三千六百元。
Guìtái: Sān ge xīngqī de xuéfèi shì sānqiān liùbǎi yuán.
Receptionist: Tuition for three weeks is 3,600 NT.

本： 好的，太好了！谢谢。
Ben: Hǎo de, tài hǎo le! Xièxie.
Ben: Really, this is great! Thanks so much.
