Designing Your Life | Case Studies

This memo provides a compendium of DYL resources from the Stanford “Life Design Studio”.
The purpose of the Life Design Studio (housed within the d.life lab) is to help other universities to
incorporate DYL on their campuses.

1. Stanford Life Design Studio – Training for Universities

 $4,800 for university team of 3
 4-day long training program > to help universities imagine/plan how to incorporate DYL in
their institution
 Offered 1x per year – Late June (they may be offering another this fall)
 They provide access to their “courseflow building” including all lesson plans, slides,
recommended class and workshop sequences, and handouts/activities they use
 Stipulation on website:
nb: All of our materials are licensed under Creative Commons. This means you
can share them with your university for educational purposes only, not for profit.

A. UC Boulder | Leeds School of Business

Program Started “Design Your Leeds” in Aug 2018 (38 sections, 19 instructors, 879
students) 1.5 credit class meets for 75 min/1x week for 15 weeks

Curriculum Follows DYL + adds business exploration and career impact skills

B. Williams College
Williams College
Program 1-hour workshop for freshman

Curriculum Wayfinding exercise, discussion of iteration/prototyping their school/career

Career Management team – at Dyson (B-school)

 University of Michigan 2-hr/1x week for 6 weeks. 0-credit for grad students. Also 1-day
workshop at Ross (B-school)

 University of Gallen DYL as creativity enabler for life design (40 students
2-hours/1x week, 12-weeks) + DYL for PhDs: 2-day workshops

 Smith College DYL for Women workshop within Center for Career development

 Ntl Taiwan University 5-day workshops with 80+ participants. Plus 18-week DYL
within the NTU D-School

 USF Muscat Scholars Program for 1st year, 1st generation and diverse
college students. 2-hour sessions with 11 mentors. Then 15-
week session and 5-hour workshop.

 Tulane University Taylor Your Life – 5-weel class of all levels. Expanded to 8-week
1-credit curricular course, now a 2-credit course. 3-day training
with staff to build a pipeline of TYL teachers. Mulitple offerings
prototyped; plethora of learnings captured.
