It is not recommended to use flat slab system in areas prone to earthquake. Why do you think about this
recommendation?

The main reason behind flat slab not being recommended in seismic regions is punching shear. In case of
seismic events column to slab joints are expected to transfer a large amount of moment. Since bending
moment increases the amount of shear to be transferred (the term β accounts for this), it would be very
difficult to ensure columns won’t punch during seismic event (unless specialized techniques are used).
