MINISTRY FOR THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND
We are grateful to those who give of their time and care
to bring Holy Communion to our parishioners who
cannot make it to church due to sickness or infirmity. If
you know of anyone who would like to receive
communion in their home or while hospitalized at West
Lincoln Hospital, please contact the parish office.
CATHOLIC MISSIONS IN CANADA
On the weekend of September 14/15, the annual
Canadian Missions Collection will be taken to assist
Catholic Missions In Canada and our paired Diocese of
Churchill-Hudson Bay. Envelopes are being provided.
The collection will be accompanied by a new initiative,
called the Day of Prayer for Canadian Home Missions.
CWL NEWS
Membership fees for 2020 are due in September. Blue
envelopes are provided in your offertory boxes, or write
"CWL fee" & your name on a plain envelope and place
it in the collection basket. Membership remains $25.
SANCTUARY LAMP
We have openings for the Sanctuary Lamp in 2020. If
you would like to book a particular week in memory of
your loved one, please contact the office sooner rather
than later as the year is filling up. Cost is $35 per week.
Annual Outdoor Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery
All are welcome to join Bishop Bergie for the Annual
Outdoor Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, 50 Woodlawn
Rd. on Sat. Sept. 21st @ 11:00 a.m. In the event of
inclement weather, the Mass will be rescheduled for
Sat. Sept. 28 @ 11:00 a.m.

ALBRIGHT MANOR & MENNONITE HOME
Two long time parishioners have been visiting Albright
Manor and Mennonite Home Catholic residents weekly
for about 20 years until recent. We are thankful to
Mary Smeenk and Helen Hendriks for their years of
service to this important ministry. We are looking for
some volunteers to continue the visits as they certainly
are missed by the residents. Interested volunteers
would require a police check if one hasn’t already been
done or if a current offense declaration isn’t on file.

Jesus calls us to seek reconciliation rather than
dominance, to love and forgive without limit or
condition, to give totally and completely regardless of
the cost or sacrifice. Such is the cross Jesus asks us to
take up.
As the tower builder and the king preparing for war
discover, our days are limited – too limited to squander
on obsessing about things at the expense of our
relationships with family and friends. Jesus challenges
us to live every moment of our lives as a time for
preparation and “planning” for much greater and lasting
things than this world of ours offers.
Often, we refuse to “let go” of things that are making
our lives so much less than we want them to be. The
gifts of God can only be grasped with the open hands of
humility and prayer; the grasping hands of materialism
and self-centeredness condemn us to a life of emptiness.
We tend to think of the crosses we bear as disorders,
complications, disappointments – even people – we are
forced to endure. But, in reality, God lays upon our
shoulders crosses – talents, abilities, skills, gifts – that
can be sources of hope, of joy, of discovery, of life, of
resurrection — for ourselves and others.

THE SACRED ART OF LISTENING
A FREE WORKSHOP
Catholic Centre, 3400 Merrittville Highway, Thorold
All are welcome to a free presentation on The Art of
Sacred Listening, facilitated by Rev. Bob Bond,
Coordinator of Spiritual and Religious Care at Niagara
Health, on September 24, 2019 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at

Thorold. Come learn about the importance of
empathetic listening and its role in compassionate care

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT
Free, guided meditation and relaxation group designed
specifically for those who are grieving. No previous
