ii. Find the area of ∆ ABD: area of ∆ CDA [2]
Question 2

a. Prove that . [3]

b. From the top of a church 96 m high the angles of depression of 2 vehicles on the road, at the
same level as the base of the church and on the same side of it, are x° and y°, where tan x° =
¾ , tan y° = 1/3. Calculate the distance between them. [4]

c. Solve for x, if it is given: . [3]

Question 3
a. A man standing on a window of the first floor of a building observes that the angle of
depression of dustbin which is 10m from the foot of the building is 38° 25’. He climbs to the
window of the second floor, directly above the first floor and observes the angle of
depression of the dustbin to be 60°. Calculate the height of the first floor and the second
floor from the ground. Also find the height of the second floor from the first floor. [4]
b. Find the two numbers such that mean proportional between them is 18 and the third
proportional is 144. [3]
c. If x:y is the sub-duplicate ratio of x – a : y – a, prove that a = (xy)/(x+y). [3]
Question 4
a. The angle of elevation of an aeroplane from a point on the ground is 45°. After a flight for 15
sec, from the same point the elevation changes to 30°. If the aeroplane is flying horizontally
at a height of 3000m, find the speed of the aeroplane. [4]

b. Prove that: . [3]
