INTRODUCTION TO ISPS CODE
COURSE CONTENT
Following the tragic events of 11th September 2001, the twenty-second session of the Assembly of the
International Maritime Organization agreed to the development of new measures relating to the security
of ships and port facilities.

The Diplomatic Conference on Maritime Security held in London in December 2002 adopted new
provisions in the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea to enhance maritime security.

ISPS Code, the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, is mandatory since July 2004 according
to the amendments of Chapter XI-2 of the SOLAS.
The objectives of the Code are to be achieved by designation of appropriate officers/personnel on each
ship, in each port facility and in each shipping company to prepare and to put into effect the security
plans that will be approved for each ship and port facility.

How do I start?
What are the responsibilities of my company?
How I organize my staff to comply with the requirements of the ISPS Code?

The presentation will answer these questions.
